قُلتُ له والرقيبُ يُعجِلُه

قُلتُ له والرقيبُ يُعجِلُه

مستعجلا للفراقِ أَينَ أَنَا

مستعجلا للفراقِ أَينَ أَنَا

I said to him, while the watchful chaperone hurried him away,

I said to him, while the watcher hurried him along,

pressing for our parting: “Where am I?”

As he hastened to part, 'Where am I?'

فمَدَّ كفّاً إِلى ترائبه

فمَدَّ كفّاً إِلى ترائبه

وقال سِر آمنا فأنتَ هُنَا

وقال سِر آمنا فأنتَ هُنَا

He stretched his hands toward his breast

Then he extended a hand toward his breast,

and said, “Go safely—for you are here.”

And said, 'Go safely, for you are here.'
