    وزهر الربى عنكِ و الدولُ

    Our neglected nest questions me;

    The hill flowers ask after you, and the turns of fortune.

    And the desolate riverbanks cry out to me:

    “Why does your girl not come?!

    And what ails her, that she has disowned the past,

    And now passes by, paying no heed?”

    به كان ميعادنا الأوّل

    And a place asks about our love,

    Where we had our first rendezvous;

    لنا ، يا معذبتي ، موئلُ

    And a willow, in whose shade

    We had a refuge, O my tormentor;

    And a grove where together we dreamed there might be

    A home for us among its spreading trees,

    Over which, of poplar and oak,

    Fragrant curtains would be drawn shut.

    و يطربه جارنا البلبل

    Butterflies would hover around it,

    And our neighbor, the bulbul, would delight it;

    And the dewy morning breeze would waft

    Toward it a fragrance that intoxicates.

    And my yearning heart asks me about you—

    So what shall I say to anyone who asks?
