حذيفةُ الخير قولاً غير تعذير
Be like your lord when he was addressed by the king—
Be like your Master when the King said to him,
Hudhayfa the Good—in words free of evasion:
"Hudhaifa, say a good word without apology."

War is sweeter, when you fear a blaze of strife,
War is sweeter when its fire rages
Than remaining in humiliation and belittlement.
Than staying with humiliation and belittlement.

So be warned of a war whose drinker is choked by water,
So proclaim a war whose water will choke its drinker,
Or of our submission to one of the sorrows.
Or else we will have to submit to treaties.
