Your refuge is my heart, and that sea, and sleeplessness.

O burning breath from yesterday’s remnants.

O radiant glimpse from yesterday’s remnants.

How often deprivation and impetuosity drew me toward her!

Be life, and die at its flutter.

How beautiful is death, with lust within its folds!

And beware a passing lull upon the road.

For perhaps a last breath from your remains will linger.

And soar as a dream that rises to my place of exile.

If an awakening grows barren, or anxiety ravages it.

And behold a rapture wandering on the horizon.

As twilight came between it and the gaze.

From whichever shore I beheld my enchantress,

Light scatters her, as do silence and radiance.

The flash of distance cast her upon my shoulder,

Until I trembled, as though I were the whisper folding shut.

This is my blood, [perhaps licking] the knife out of pride,

As though it were doubt clinging to the fires.

For doubt is my murderess, and fear my enchantress.

I exalted a murderess who puts no trust in the pledge.

So I wandered, the days digging into me in my weariness.

Where is the journey, if a starting point is hard to find?

When I fall, I find the road spitting me out.

And if I walk, a slippery patch tugs at my steps.

I sailed in my rapture for the sake of aimlessness.

Night is my sails, and the shore is the horizon.

For I am not the last of those who lost their way in their exile.

Wherever I turn, the roads have already narrowed around me.

And my night is not held hostage by dawn’s fetter,

Until it enfolded me, as though I were the unfettered cripple.
