Ah, O eye, hold nothing back and weep

For a noble chief, a match for the calamities of time.

And what ails the eye, that it does not weep for Ḥawṭ,

And Zayd, and their paternal cousin Dhufāf,

And ʿAbd Allāh—oh, my grief for him!

And no secret among Zayd Manāt remains hidden.

We found that the wealth easiest to lose—

by your fortune!—is what you set the hearthstones for.
