يا بريقاً من ربا نجدٍ بدا
حي عني حي ذاك الوطن
O gleam from the Lord of Najd that appeared
Alive are my eyes, alive is that homeland
لست أنسى حسن انسٍ ابدا
كان كالعرس بذاك المسكن
I shall never forget the beauty of its dwellings
It was like a wedding in that residence
شهد الله شجاني ذكره
لاريج جاء من ارجائه
Allah is witness to my longing for its mention
Its pleasant scent came from its corners
فعلي اليوم حقاً شكره
والثنا مني على اثنائه
So today I must thank it
And praise its qualities
لا تلم صباً تبدى سكره
ان تلا الانباء عن ابنائه
Do not blame morning for the appearance of its intoxication
If it related the news about its sons
هم بدور الدورار باب الندى
والو الحسن وأهل اللسن
They are the full moons of al-Dawwar, the gate of dew
And the most beautiful and eloquent people
سكنوا الواي دهراً فغدا
كسما الدنيا كذا في حضن
They dwelled in the valley for an age, so it became
Like the beauty of the world, thus in an embrace
بينهم لي فرقدٌ قد اشرقا
ورعى مني الحشا لاذممي
Between them I have a nap that shone
And drank from me the pure, with no blemish
يتهادى بين غزلان النقا
كتهادي البدر بين الانجم
Playing between the gazelles of splendor
Like the playing of the moon among the stars
مفرد العصر جمالاً مطلقا
فلذا اسري اليه ينتمي
Matchless in beauty in the age
So I walk towards it, belonging to it
منجد لكنه ما انجدا
مغرماً في حبه من شجن
Munjid, but it is not salvation
Passionately in love with it from yearning
مخلفٌ وعد وصالي سرمدا
وإذا أوعدني لم يخن
Leaving a promise of eternal union
And if he promised me, he did not betray
يا له ظبياً بعقلي لعبا
طلق الوجه وقيد الناظر
O its antelope, playing with my mind
Smooth-faced and capturing the watcher
فاق ان قيس ببلقيس سبا
مع سنا الملك بحسن باهر
He surpassed Qais in his obsession with Layla
With the splendor of the king in magnificent beauty
نونه ابدا سبيلاً عجبا
صيدهُ الصيد بجفن فاتر
His prey is prey to a sleepy eyelid
And from Damascus he has a mole that called
ومن الشام له خال شدا
بلبلاً في مصر حسن حسني
A nightingale in Egypt, the beauty of Hosni
And from the houri he has a heart that guides
ومن الحور له القلب فدل
طرفه الهندي اليماني اليزني
His Indian, Yemeni, Eurasian charm
A hidden treasure, his mouth guarded
كنز در ثغره قد حرسا
بارق رطب انيق منتظم
A juicy, delicate, well-proportioned radiance
Wondrously how they planted in him
عجباً كيف به قد غرسا
في عقيقٍ وبياقوت ختم
In carnelian and sealed with aquamarine
O my blaze, if despair made me its companion
يا حريقي لو اسامني الأسى
برحيق فيه بالريق وسم
With a drink in which radiance and perfection exist
I would quench the heart from the heat of estrangement
كنت اروي القلب من حر الصدا
وأري طرفي لذيذ الوسن
And show my eyes the sweet comradeship
And compose poetry as an unmatched pair
واصوغ الشعر شفعاً مفردا
في حلى الشهم الذكي الفطن
In the adornment of the wise and brilliant man
He is called Suleiman, safe and sound
هو من يدعى سليماً سلما
من عدو وظلوم وحسود
From an enemy, injustice and envy
Seeking knowledge, he came to embody knowledge
طلب العلم فأمسى علما
فيه وازداد ارتقاءً في السعود
And continued to rise in good fortune
He is from prominent people, generous
وهو من قوم فخام كرما
زانهم مجد واحسان وجود
Honored with glory, benevolence and nobility
So in those virtues he followed
فهو في تلك المزيات اقتدا
بابيه ذي العلا عبد الغني
His father, the erudite Abdel Ghani
He became a pillar for the people of poverty
من لأهل الفقر اضحى سندا
ودواماً عنده الفضل غني
And his outstanding merit always enriches
In the name of the fasting month he became famous among the people
باسم شهر الصوم في القوم اشتهر
وهو ذو فضل على باقي السنه
And he has merit over the rest of the year
He is prominent among the notables
وهو في الاعيان ذاك المعتبر
مدحته في الصدور الالسنه
Those with hearts and tongues praise him
His face blooms like the moon among mortals
وجهه بالبشر يزهو كالقمر
وهو في تلك الوجوه الحسنه
And among those beautiful faces
A Kaaba of generosity, pillar of shelter
كعبة للجود ركن الندا
محمل المدح لكل الالسن
Bearer of praise from all tongues
Remaining in glory for ages
دام في عز على طول المدا
دائم المعروف في عيش هني
Ever beneficent, living comfortably
The confluence of seas meets his house
ملتقى الأبحر تلقى داره
وبها المجد ينادي بالفصيح
Wherein glory calls out eloquently
Rejoice, O his moons, good tiding
ابشروا بالسعد يا اقماره
واهنأ وبالمنزل العالي الفسيح
And congratulations on the high and splendid residence
Its features foretell good tidings
وتلا بشر بها آثاره
وبها رونقه زاه صريح
Its splendor apparent and clear
It is built with the highest virtues
فهي صرح بالمعالي شيدا
والمعاني وعلى التقوى بني
And meanings, and on piety founded
Extending beneficence through the Yemen, and in it resistance
مد باليمن وفيه مردا
قصرها دام بذاك المأمن
Its palace remains, by that refuge
Its builders, men of greatness
وبنو بانيه ابناء العلا
كنجوم في سماءٍ بل يدور
Like stars in a sky, nay revolving
They put effort to attain the heights
قصروا الجهد على نيل العلا
فاستطالوا وسواهم في قصور
And became tall, equaling them in palaces
They matched the peaks where sublimity rose
واستووا في أوجها حيث علا
وعلى الأوده منهم كل نور
And every light depends on their friendship
They are generous, noble blessed ones
فهم الغر الكرام السعدا
والثنا منا عليهم ينثني
Our praises upon them pile
With them lies the market of virtues and guidance
عندهم سوق المعالي والهدا
رائج والكل بالعلم عني
Flourishing, and all with knowledge graced
For Suleiman, congenial of nature, I gift a camel
لسليم الطبع اهدي جملا
فهو من حلفي ويا نعم الرفيق
As he is my comrade - and what an excellent friend
He is the one I praise to all scholars
وهو ممدوحي لدى كل الملا
وهو خيري كامل حر رقيق
He is my superior, complete, free, refined
He still remains generous and preferring
فهو لا زال كريماً مفضلاً
حسن السيرة مسرور الصديق
Of good conduct, delighted with the friend
So I congratulate him and dedicate with joy
فأهنيه واهدي منشداً
بهداءٍ شادياً في لعلن
An ode calling in precious words
So, congratulations! The date marking his appearance is done
فهنيأ تم تاريخ بدا
جلبت شمس إلى البدر السني
I brought a sun to the shining full moon
