  2. لا العشق حرام ولا المحبة اثم

    حتى اتسلى عن الحبيب بسلوان

    Until I find solace from the beloved with harmony

    I ransom him, a gazelle who has captivated my heart

  3. افديه غزالاً قد استجر فؤادي

    للعشق جمال به فاصبح ولهان

    For love has a beauty that makes me completely besotted

    What grace in his slender figure

  4. ما الطف ما فيه من رشاقة قدٍّ

    ان ماس فيه خجلة الغصون من البان

    That the branches are shy of his radiance

    His stature like the dawn, his spear like a lance

  5. كالصبح وكالرمح قامة ومحيا

    كالخمور وكالجمر ريق فيه وخدان

    His saliva and cheeks like wine and embers

    I have not forgotten the cups of wine he offers me

  6. لم أنس كؤوس الطلا يناولنيها

    في روضة أنس بها النسيم له شان

    In a garden where the breeze makes me comfortable

    The garden blossoms like a bride

  7. والروضة تزهو بزهرها كعروس

    تجلى وعليها من الملابس الوان

    Revealing clothes of different colors

    Doves cooing in pairs and three by three

  8. والغيد تهادى بها ثلاث ومثنى

    والبلبل غنى على الغصون بالحان

    Nightingales singing melodies on the branches

    Melodies of precious art in their hands

  9. الحان قيان عز فن في يدهن ال

    أوراق دفوفا إذا الرواقص اغصان

    Leaves swaying when the boughs dance

    The water murmurs gently over pebbles

  10. والماء خلاخبل عسجد ولجين

    شتى ودواليبها تخر بتحنان

    Its streams flow soothingly

    Murmuring sadly, pouring out

  11. تحكي بحنين لها وصب مياه

    عيني وقلبي لبعد شيخي ذي الشان

    Tears from my eyes and heart in longing for my eminent teacher

    My professor who told of Khalil's intelligence

  12. استاذي من قد حكى الخليل ذكاء

    والسعد بياناً وفي الفصاحة حسان

    And Saad's eloquence and Hassaan's mastery of rhetoric

    An ink worthy to be called blessed

  13. حبر يتسمى محبدا وجدير

    منه بذمام مدى الزمان واحسان

    Deserving to last for ages with kindness

    A sign of this time, rather the imam

  14. علامة هذا الزمان بل وامام

    حقاً لذوي العلم اجمعين وسلطان

    Truly the sultan of all scholars

    If interpreting, we say Abu Al-Suood precisely

  15. ان حدث قلنا هو الإمام عياض

    أو فسر قلنا أبو السعود باتقان

    My friends, have you heard any praise

    Then bring proof if you claim

  16. هل يا ندمائي سمعتمو بهمام

    يحكيه فهاتوا إذا ادعيتم برهان

    He has honored me by loving me and bestowing on me

    Bounty, overlooking my faults though they be many

  17. قد شرفني إذ أحبني وحباني

    فضلا وتغاضى عن العيوب وما شان

    He gifted me poetry containing Iyas's eloquence

    That would make even Suhayb bow and prostrate

  18. أهدى لي شعرا حوى بيان اياس

    بل يركع قس له ويسجد سحبان

    O sun, though the horizon of your essence is my heart

    When our eyes meet, it becomes apparent

  19. يا شمس وان كان افق ذاتك قلبي

    لكن بتلاقي العيون يصبح جذلان

    O embodiment of all perfection, from you we hope

    To meet you soon, so Egypt gleams from your presence

  20. يا حائز كل الكمال منك نرجي

    لقياك قريباً فمصر نابك تزدان
