1. سيرابي فقد أشرق الشرق

    وهبت صبا نجد فهاج بي العشق

    My caravan, the East has dawned

    And the morning breeze of Najd blew, igniting love within me

  2. رفيقي جدا بي لنجد نجديه

    مقر الهوى والطرف فالجد بي رفق

    My companion, hurry to Najd, my Najd

    The abode of passion, and the land, so hasten gently with me

  3. وان لم تسيرا بي دجى خيفة الوحى

    اجن الجوى قلبي وأرقني الخفق

    If you don't journey with me in the darkness of ecstasy

    Light up my heart and calm my flutterings

  4. وما بكما وجدي فان تبقيا هنا

    ولم تنجدا انجد ولو طالت الطرق

    You both, whether you stay or leave

    I will go on, though long the road

  5. نعم في فراق الألف والبين كلنا

    ولكنما بيني وبينكما فرق

    Yes, we all feel the pang of parting and distance

    But between you and I there's a difference

  6. فان التي قد ودعتني ودعتها

    وفي طرفها ودق وفي كيدي حرق

    For she who bid me farewell and whom I bid farewell

    With a glance that pierced and burned my core

  7. خريدة خدر غادة يدوية

    فريدة عصر ما بيه مثلها خلق

    Khayrida, a fawn, a gazelle

    Unique in an age that saw none like her

  8. قد التبست في اللبس بالغصن وارفا

    فكادت عليها وحدها ثقف الورق

    Her clothes blended with the branch, till

    Only her clothes seemed to bear fruit

  9. بها من ظباء القاع حسن التفاتة

    ورخمة صوت والنواظر والعنق

    With the grace of wild does as she turns

    A melodious voice, glances and neck

  10. ويسطع منت حت الشفوف شعاعها

    كشمس الضحى صيفا إذا غيم الافق

    Her lips shine radiant like the midday sun

    In summer, when the horizon is clouded

  11. وتبسم عن در ولله درها

    فيلمغ منه خاطفا لبى البرق

    She smiles a pearl smile, what a pearl!

    I greedily drink it in with a lightning glance

  12. وان نزل المشروب في جوف حلقها

    يكاد لنا يبديه من لطفه الحلق

    When drink goes down her throat

    It seems to reveal its subtlety through her throat

  13. وان لها صدرا اشف من المها

    ونهدين كلٌّ من سنا جامد حق

    She has a chest smoother than silk

    And two breasts, each a solid pearl

  14. نوارٌ من النور المجمد جسمها

    سرى فرعها الليلي وهو به فرق

    The light of her body is frozen light

    Whose branches flow down her legs by night

  15. ولو لم يكن مدحي بشيراً بواجب

    اطلت بها شرحي ولم ينته النطق

    Even if my praise weren't an obligation

    I'd expound on her, my words never ending

  16. ولكنه أسدى وأكرم وافيا

    وشكري لمن اسدى واكرمني حق

    But it is a duty, and she's generous and true

    My thanks to one so generous and kind to me

  17. واحسن لي حتى صفت لجنابه

    محبة قلبي بل عراني به عشق

    Who was good to me until I came to describe

    My loving heart, or rather, my passion for her

  18. بشير بن ناصيف الكريم ابو الندى

    اخو الجود من مدحي لأوصافه لبق

    Bashir bin Nasif, noble Abu Nadda

    The essence of munificence, though my praise cannot do justice

  19. مجيد نعوت المجد من ذاته كما

    له اسم من البشرى أو البشر مشتق

    Glorious are his traits of glory, as

    His name derives from good news or good men

  20. جليل جميل الرفق دوماً رفيقه

    بسلمٍ كما ان الصديق له الصدق

    Exalted, excellent in gentleness, ever gentle

    With concord, as a friend is always true

  21. ومن وصفه عزم وحزم تواضع

    حياء وود والمرؤة والحذق

    When describing him: determination, steadfastness, humility,

    Modesty, affection, manliness and wisdom

  22. إذا جال فكري في معاليه خلته

    يخوض ببحر ليس يدري له عمق

    When my thoughts dwell on his greatness

    I plunge into a sea whose depth I know not

  23. لقد جمعت فيه المكارم كلها

    ولا شيء من شين لديه ولا فسق

    He has gathered all virtues within him

    Nothing vile or immoral in him at all

  24. جواد فلو جاراه ابناء عصره

    ومن قبلهم في الجود كان له السبق

    Open-handed, if the men of his time rivaled him

    Or those before, in munificence, he'd still lead

  25. سحاب سخاء إنما الجود جوده

    سماء سماح انما ودقه الورق

    A rain cloud of generosity, for his is true generosity

    A sky of graciousness, and branches that bear fruit

  26. يجازي على العروف فوق جزائه

    ويجزيه عن معروفه شكره الوفق

    He rewards good above what's due

    And for the good he receives, he shows gratitude

  27. على الجود مطبوع فلا يستفزه

    شياطين بخل بل يرى أنهم حمق

    Generosity is his nature, he cannot be provoked

    By devils of stinginess, rather, he sees them as fools

  28. أعيذ نداه من أذاهم بربه

    وأرجوه ان يزداد منه له الرزق

    I seek refuge for his munificence from their harm

    And I hope it will increase his provision from God

  29. أصيل له فرع تسامى إلى العلا

    واصل عريق لا يزال له عرق

    He's of noble origin, with branches reaching high

    And an ancient lineage, ever fruitful

  30. لقد طاب منه الأصل والفرع والحجا

    كذا القول والافعال والخلق والخلق

    His origin, branches, family and clan are wholesome

    As are his words, deeds, nature and character

  31. شجاع إذا صسلت بحرب سيوفه

    فاسياف من عادى تصوم وتنشق

    Brave, when swords clash in battle

    The swords of his enemies fast and crack

  32. له الراية البيضاء والوجه مثلها

    وأعدائه السوداء والأوجه الزرق

    To him belongs the white banner and his face like it

    While the faces of his enemies are blackened and blue

  33. سعيد لقد عاداه قوم حماقةً

    وان معاداة السعيد هي الحمق

    Happy, though some opposed him foolishly

    For opposing the happy is foolishness

  34. فيا بحر فخر ليس يدري محبطه

    وبابر جود عنده يدرك الرزق

    So O sea of pride none can diminish

    And O door of munificence with provision for all

  35. اسيرك ذا قد سر ذا الاسر سره

    وإن ناله منك الطلاقة والعنق

    I am your captive, joyous in captivity

    Eloquence and neck gracefully yours

  36. فلا زلت يا حر المعاني وروحها

    تزف لك الالفاظ وهي بها رق

    Ever you, O free spirit and its soul

    Come to me with words that dance

  37. ولا زلت تأتيك الرغائب والمنى

    وتأتي المنايا في أعاديك والمحق

    Ever you attain all desires and wishes

    While your enemies attain demise and ruin

  38. ولا زلت مقبول الكلام مظفراً

    وضدك مخذولاً له الرد والسحق

    Ever you gain acceptance and triumph

    While your opponents gain rejection and defeat

  39. فدم أبداً طلق المحيا نديه

    وكفاك كل منهما بالندى طلق

    So live ever free, generous Nadda

    And suffice with generosity and freedom

  40. فسعدك يبقى عندك الدهر خادما

    كعبد مطيع ما له ابداً أبق

    May your good fortune serve you forever

    An obedient slave, never to abandon you

  41. ودمت كبدر والبنون كانجم

    ودام بافلاك المعالي لكم شرق

    Be like the full moon, your sons like stars

    Forever rising through the heavens' spheres
