1. أعقود تنظمت من جمان

    تتحلى بها صدور الحسان

    Jewels of speech that adorn the breasts of the fair,

    Or gardens wherein bloom lovely flowers,

  2. أم جنان فيها خمائل زهر

    وفنون الثمار في الافنان

    And fruits of every kind in branches.

    Or a book containing histories narrated eloquently,

  3. أم كتاب حوى التواريخ طرا

    وبيان الاديان بالاتقان

    And exposition of religions skillfully.

    Of concise, yet flawless composition, thus

  4. ذو اختصار بلا اختلال لهذا

    قد تسمى بلقطة العجلان

    It may be called “The Quick Gathering”.

    So may Allah preserve what he has gathered,

  5. فله الله ما الذ واشهى

    ما حوى من بديع حسن البيان

    The beautiful eloquence it contains.

    Charming, elegant, exquisite as hyacinth,

  6. فائق رائق انيق زنبق

    معجب مطرب رشيق المباني

    Wondrous, melodious, graceful in structure.

    The like of it we have not heard or seen,

  7. ما سمعنا بمثله أو رأينا

    فلهذا نصونه في الجنان

    Thus we shall guard it in our souls.

    May Allah protect the fingers that wrote it,

  8. حفظ الله أنملاً نمقته

    وفؤادا القى لتلك البنان

    And the heart that conceived those meanings.

    What a composer of wondrous eloquence,

  9. يا له من مصنف لبديعٍ

    ببيان أزرى على الهمذاني

    Surpassing Al-Hamaḏānī in rhetoric!

    When I saw it, I knew the saying was true,

  10. قلت لما رأيته صح ما قيل

    كلام السلطان كالسلطان

    The Sultan’s words are like the Sultan.

    So may Allah reward him on our behalf,

  11. فجزاه الإله عنا بخير

    نافعاً للورى عظيم الشان

    Benefiting humanity, exalted in status.
