يا فارس الفضل في ميدان حلبته
ومحرز السبق الخافي عن الأول
O champion of virtue in the arena of its contest
And winner of the hidden race from the first
قد خضت بحر لغات العرب منتخلا
مرجانه مع جمان غير منتحل
You have traversed the sea of Arabic languages, gathering
Its pearls along with priceless gems not borrowed
وصنت في صدف الأوراق جملتها
وزنت تفصيلها في اجمل الجمل
And crafted in the shell of papers its sentences
Weighing their details in the most beautiful compositions
وباسم سر الليال منك قد وسمت
تلك اللآلي التي كالزهر للسبل
And with the secret of nights you have marked
Those brilliant gems that adorn the roads
فهو السلاف الذي ذا العصر مفتخر
على العصور به الخالي عن الخال
It is the choice wine that this era takes pride in
Above eras, through it the bare of bare
وهو اللباب أو الالباب تعرفه
وتغرف الفضل منه وهو لم يزل
It is the essence or the quintessence, you know it
And draw virtue from it while it does not cease
وكم عباب حوى في طيه وثوى
به عجاب اليه الغير لم يصل
How much wonder it contains in its folds and dwells
In it strangeness of wonders not yet reached
فيه غنى عن سواه إذ تطالعه
وليس فيما سواه عنه من بدل
In it is independence from all else when you behold it
And there is nothing else besides it as a substitute
وفيه بان لنا سر اللغا وبدا
لغو السوى وازيل الشك عن عضل
Through it the secret of language appeared and the
Nonsense of others vanished, doubts unlocked
ويشرح الصدر شرح القلب فيه وكم
يهدي بابداله للقلب من جذل
It relaxes the chest, relaxes the heart therein and how much
Guidance its exchanges give to hearts from avarice
وكل فرع بفرق ضم فيه إلى
مبد اشتقاق وعنه الكتب في عطل
Every branch with sections he gathered into
A foundation of derivation, while books were stalled
والشهد يشهد حقاً في شواهده
وانه كزلال عادم الزلل
True testimony testifies in its examples
That it is a drink pure of flaws
يا احمد الفضل والافضال زدت علا
ودام يزجى اليك الشكر من قبلي
O Ahmed of overflowing virtues you excel
And thanks from me keep pouring to you
ولا تزال بشكر الخلق مغتبطاً
ولا برحت جميل الخلق والعمل
Never cease to rejoice in thanking people
Nor being benevolent and good in deed
ودام نفعك في ذا الكون منتشراً
حتى تدوم كبدر فيه كتمل
May your benefit in this universe stay spread
Until you remain in it like a full moon
