1. ألا هل ليالي الشاذياخ تؤوب

    فإني إليها ما حييت طروب

    Alas! Will the nights of al-Shadiyakh return,

    For as long as I live, I yearn for them -

  2. بلاد بها تصبى الصبا ويشوقنا الـ

    ـشمال ويقتاد القلوب جنوب

    A land where youth flourishes, and we long for

    The north wind, while hearts are led south,

  3. لذاك فؤادي لا يزال مروعا

    ودمعي لفقدان الحبيب سكون

    Thus my heart remains restless,

    And my tears flow for the loss of my beloved.

  4. ويوم فراق لم يرده ملالة

    محب ولم يجمع عليه حبيب

    On the day we parted, fatigue did not touch,

    A lover, nor did a friend gather.

  5. ولم يحد حاد بالرحيل ولم يزع

    عن الإلف حزن أو يحول كثيب

    No one bid farewell or was saddened

    By separation, or turned like a rolling dune.

  6. أئن ومن أهواه يسمع أنتي

    ويدعو غرامي وجده فيجيب

    Do you, whom I love, hear my sighing,

    And pity my passion, and answer my call?

  7. وأبكى فيبكي مسعدا لي فيلتقي

    شهيق وأنفاس له ونحيب

    I weep, so you weep, glad for me, and our

    Sobs meet, breaths, and lament.

  8. على أن دهري لم يزل مذ عرفته

    يشتت خلان الصفا ويريب

    Yet my fate, since I knew it,

    Scatters the intimates of purity, and doubts.

  9. ألا يا حبيبا حال دون بهائه

    على القرب باب محكم ورقيب

    Oh my love! A firm, guarded door

    Has come between us and closeness.

  10. فمن يصح من داء الخمار فليس

    من خمار للمحب طبيب

    So let him who is sick with wine be cured,

    For the lover has no doctor for wine.

  11. بنفسي أفدى من أحب وصاله

    ويهوى وصالي ميله ويثيب

    With my soul I ransom the one whose union I love,

    Who desires my union, inclining toward me.

  12. ونبذل جهدينا لشمل يضمنا

    ويأبى زماني إن ذا لعجيب

    We exert our efforts for a union that will unite us,

    Yet my time refuses - how strange!

  13. وقد زعموا أن كل من جد واجد

    وما كل أقوال الرجال تصيب

    They claimed that whoever strives will attain,

    But not all men's words are true.
