ولما رأيت الدهر جار ولم أجد

من الناس من يعدى على الدهر عدواكا

When I saw fate raging on, and found

No one among people to challenge fate like you,

ركبت الفلا يحدو بي الأمل الذي

يدني على بعد التنائف مثواكا

I embarked upon hope that led me

To your distant abode.

ورمت بأن أهدي إليك هدية

فلم أر ما يهديه مثلي لشرواكا

And I thought to bring you a gift,

But found nothing a man like me could offer to deserve your friendship,

فجئتك بالأرضين جمعاً تفاؤلاً

لعلمي بأن الفال رائد عقباك

So I came to you with all the earth, hopefully,

Knowing fate guides your steps.

فخذ هذه واستخدم الفلك الذي

براه إلهي كي يدور ببغياكا

Take this, and steer the ship

My God created, that it may sail with your will.
