لقد طَرقَت أُمُّ الخشيفِ وإِنها

إذا صرع القومَ الكرى لَطَرُوقُ

The mother of autumn has knocked, and if

The fates strike down the people, autumn will knock

فيا كبداً يُحمى عليها وأنَّها

مخافة هَيضات النوى لخَفُوقُ

So o my burning liver, and that she

Fears the shaking of the stars is imminent

أقام فريق من أناس يَوَدُّهُم

بذات الغضا قلبي وبان فريقُ

A group of people whom my heart in

Its prime loves, and a group

لحاجة محزون يظلُّ وقلبهُ

رهينٌ ببضَّات الحِجال صديقُ

Of a suffering sorrowful man who remains while his heart

Is hostage to the cutting of friends

تَحَمَّلنَ إن هَبَّت لَهُنّ عَشَيَّةً

جَنُوبٌ وإن لاحت لهن بروقُ

They endured if an evening

Blows south winds, and if lightening flashes for them

كأَنَّ فُضُولَ الرَّقم حين جَعَلنَها

غُديّاً على أُدمِ الجمال عُذُوقُ

As if the surplus tracings when they made it

An ornament on the beautiful skin, a bite

وفيهن من بُختِ النِّسَاءِ رِبَحلَةٌ

تَكَادُ على غُرِّ السحابِ تَرُوقُ

And in them from the luck of women a she-camel

That almost flies above the clouds

هِجانٌ فأمَّا الدِّعصُ من أُخرَياتها

فوعثٌ وأمَّا خصرُها فَدقيقُ

Passionate so as for the chubbiness of their bottoms

It's tempting, and as for their waist it's slim
