Indeed God's servants, I do not look

At the ruins of a day, nor its dusty flags,

As if my heart, whenever a rider passes by,

Is the wing of a raven that rose up to its nest.

When a group travels towards Yamama,

Passion calls you and your heart flutters with memories,

I say to Musa while tears are like

Streams of water flowing in their channels,

Does a sixty year old sheikh have an excuse

To cry out of joy towards Yamama?

He said: Crying can heal the pain of love,

And nothing is more helpful than consolation and patience.

So let me weep for the love I harbor

And the latent longing in my breast,

I turned away from her unwillingly and left her

Though parting with her was hard to endure.

O rider of the camel litter, you refused to surrender

And still you doubt what fate conceals,

When you reach the barren land, call out to its breeze,

You will be watered by the rainclouds over the sparse shrubs.

For you are from a valley dear to me

Even if you only pass by the dusty roads,

Perhaps He who ordains all matters with His knowledge

Will one day return me to it by decree.

Then an eye will rest from crying

And a heart will awaken that scolding cannot deter,

They say that separation cures love,

But I have only grown weaker since we parted.

Drinking from wells, pure and clear

Is easier and safer than sailing the seas.

If you do not care for yourself when alone

Sorrows will surround you before you know.

Relying on the sultan is the gateway to disgrace,

And is closest to contentment and poverty.

The lack of gratitude I have seen from people

Makes me shun any good deed I have done for them.
