لَمْ يُغْرِقِ الواصفُ المختارُ في صِفَةٍ

أقصَى مَدَى غايةِ الإحسانِ والكرَمِ

The eloquent describer did not exaggerate

The utmost extent of the height of generosity and nobility

أنْ قالَ ذاك لبَكْرٍ خالِصٌ أبداً

دونَ البريّةِ من مُقْصّى وذِي قَدَمِ

When he said this to Bakr in particular forever

Beyond the wilderness from the farthest and with great heritage

يَا واصِلَ الرَّحمِ المقطوعِ ما وَصَلتْ

منكَ القرابةُ بالإفضالِ والنِّعَمِ

O kinsman of the severed kinship, what benefits

From you did kinship attain with favor and bounty

قد قلتُ حين توَلَّوا مُسْرعِينَ بِهِ

نَحْوَ البقيِع ألاَ للهِ مِنْ رَجَمِ

I said when they hurried away with him

Toward al-Baqi', but for God what a stoning

لو يعلُم المَيْتُ ما يَلْقَي المُصَابُ بِهِ

عَلِمتَ أنِّيَ ذو حظٍ من الألَمِ

If the dead knew what the bereaved encounter

You would know I have a share of pain

إن تُمْسِ رَهْنَ ضَرِيحٍ وسْطَ بَلْقَعَةٍ

فقد تكُونُ لنَا حِرْزاً من العَدَمِ

If you dwell upon a tomb amid al-Baqia

It could be for us a preservation from oblivion

كُنْتَ النجيبَ ومَلْجّا في الخُطُوبِ لنَا

يَجْلُو جبينُك عَنَّا حالكَ الظُّلَمِ

You were the noble one and our refuge in adversities

Your brow would shine upon us, your condition in the darkness

أورثتنا المجدَ مجداً لا يدافِعُهُ

ضِدٌّ عَدُوٌّ كثير الفنّ في الكَلِمِ

You bequeathed us glory, glory which no

Opposing enemy rebuts, skillful in speech

إلاّ بما قد يقول الناسُ كُلُّهُمُ

زَاَلتْ ذُرَى أجَأٍ والفِنْدُ من خِيَمِ

Unless what people in their entirety may say

The motes of dust of Aja and the tent pegs vanished
