I'm satisfied with little as it is:

A tent in my homeland without grandeur,

A tent where I wash my mother's hand

    Whenever the dawn rises,

And a warm loaf she bakes,

"Mother Shaima", and a pitcher made of palms,

    For two generations I've been

    Traveling between despair and hope,

Neither has the morning smiled at my eyes,

Nor has the night comforted my heart and sleeping place,

The dawn held back from my heart, so it hasn't

Visited me without a child in its eyes,

History lied.. my homeland still has

    "Gods" and "madness" for polytheists,

My sails are tired from my fatigue

Whenever the coast deploys them, it stumbles,

The wind avoided my ships except

Whose breath is flames of burning embers

O crescent of feast, is there any news

About my Euphrates, plains and mountains?

"Twenty one Eids" have passed and no

Neighbor visited me..nor did the worry leave,

    Loneliness installed my pride

And dug into my soul with boredom's thorns,

It widened my dish but narrowed

Between my castle and sickly palaces,

My master, o palm tree dweller, and o

    Humble mud and chaste kisses,

I know, my master, that I have

    Some madness for your gardens,

Love broke my heart so I became

A lord of craziness for his "Laila",

My cup sufficed with morning drink and after

Your river, no more sweetness and honey,

I got used to sadness so after

Your nights no more beautiful dawn pleased me,

So for whom do I open my eyes if

My eyelids and sleep aren't lined with kohl?

I'm, my master, the child who

Experienced love murmuring so he sobbed,

My child's heart still throbs with

Longing for tomorrow.. and "Laila" still remains,

My master, my lord.. so grant me even

Some foam from you and a plate made of hearts,

And from the land, just one arm

I'm satisfied with little as it is!
