1. مآتم الظلم تتلوهن أعياد

    إياك أن تجزعي إياك بغداد

    The feasts of injustice fade away,

    Do not despair, oh Baghdad!

  2. أمس استبد بأهليك الطغاة أذى

    وراح يمتحن الأحرار جلاد

    Yesterday oppressors tormented your people,

    And free men were tested by the executioner.

  3. فهب أبناؤك الأحرار في همم

    تغار منها لدى الهيجاء آساد

    So your free sons rose in determination,

    The dens of hyenas envy them.

  4. فلم يرعهم رصاص الخائنين ولا

    قيد وحبس وتعذيب وإبعاد

    Neither the bullets of traitors nor

    Imprisonment, torture, and exile could stop them.

  5. حتى تهدم صرح الظلم وانكفأت

    قدر الفساد وأهل الظلم قد بادوا

    Until the edifice of injustice collapsed

    And the fate of corruption ended, the unjust perished.

  6. ورفرفت راية الإسلام عالية

    وحن للعز أشراف وأمجاد

    The banner of Islam flew high,

    And the noble and glorious bowed to dignity.

  7. والله أكبر قد راحت ترددها

    بعد المنابر أغوار وأنجاد

    God is Greater was called out

    After minbars by the valleys and trees.

  8. ودمدمت سور القرآن صارخة

    كأنها مقل ترنو ومرصاد

    The fence of the Quran cried out

    As if it were a pulpit preaching and guiding.

  9. أشبال بغداد ياسرا تضمنه

    صدر الزمان به أجدادنا سادوا

    Baghdad's cubs whom

    Time's chest contained with which our ancestors ruled

  10. وحطموا كل طاغوت ومختتل

    طغى على قلبه غل واحقاد

    And destroyed every arrogant tyrant

    In whose heart dwelled injustice and hatred.

  11. بغداد أنت حمى الإسلام تحرسه

    من عاديات الليالي السود أجناد

    Baghdad, you are the protector of Islam,

    Guarding it from the enemies of the dark nights.

  12. يا شامة في جبين الدهر رائعة

    بها جمال العلى والمجد يزداد

    You are a beauty mark on the brow of time,

    With it the beauty of the high and glorious grow.

  13. يا روضة من رياض العز زاهرة

    للطير فيها على الأغصان إنشاد

    You are a meadow of the gardens of dignity, flowering,

    Upon its branches birds sing.

  14. ويبسم الفجر من ريا نوافجها

    ما اهتز روح وريحان وأوراد

    Dawn smiles from the buds of your streams,

    No soul or fragrance or flowers tremble.

  15. يا قلعة من قلاع الحق خالدة

    ما راعها قط إبراق وإرعاد

    You are an eternal citadel of truth,

    Thunder and lightning do not alarm it.

  16. باتت على هامة التاريخ رافعة

    نور النبي لمن زاغوا ومن حادوا

    You stand tall in history, raising

    The Prophet's light for those who stray and those who deviate.

  17. عم البرايا سلام من حضارتها

    وأمها من جميع الخلق قصاد

    Your civilization spread peace across the land

    And you are a mother to all people.

  18. فاضت ينابيعها برا ومرحمة

    وروح نهضتها هدي وإرشاد

    Your springs overflowed with kindness and mercy

    And your spirit is guidance and righteousness.

  19. إياك أن تجزعي إياك بغداد

    شدي الوثاق فصرح الظلم مياد

    Do not despair, oh Baghdad!

    Tighten your bond, the edifice of injustice weakens.

  20. سدي ثغور العدى واستجمعي همما

    لنا مع الفجر يا بغداد ميعاد

    Fortify the breaches of enemies and gather your resolve,

    For us, Baghdad, the dawn is an appointed time.

  21. غدا يدوي نداء الحق ثانية

    فتستجيب مدى الآفاق أمداد

    Tomorrow the call of truth will roar again

    So all horizons respond with support.

  22. هدارة كسيول طم زاخرها

    يطفو عليها من الأخباث أزباد

    The noon of your glory will shine

    As the filth floating on it perishes.

  23. وتدمغ الباطل المذبوح حجتنا

    فينثني زاهقا تبكيه أوغاد

    Our proof will stamp out falsehood,

    Vanquished, evildoers will weep over it.

  24. إسلامنا لا يرى فينا له تبعا

    إذا رآنا لأهل الظلم ننقاد

    Our Islam does not want us to follow

    The unjust when we see them lead astray.

  25. صلاتنا لا يراها الله قائمة

    ويحكم الناس فساق وفساد

    God does not see our prayers established

    While the corrupt and immoral rule people.

  26. تشقى الملايين من أبناء أمتنا

    فيستبد بتالي الأمر أفراد

    Millions of our nation suffer

    As a few seize power entirely.

  27. الحكم لله لا يطغى به أحد

    والشرع أولى إذا حكامنا حادوا

    Judgment belongs to God alone, none shall transgress it.

    Sharia takes precedence if our rulers deviate.

  28. شريعة الله لا نرضى بها بدلا

    وإن تميز من دعواي حساد

    We do not accept anything instead of God's Sharia

    Though the envious pretend to guide us.

  29. فالغرب ما انفك يسبينا ويظلمنا

    والشرق كالغرب زمار وعواد

    The West continues to enslave and wrong us,

    And the East is like the West, musical instruments and empty pleasures.

  30. شريعة الله تحيينا وتسعدنا

    وما سواها فتضليل وإفساد

    God's Sharia gives us life and happiness,

    While anything else misleads and corrupts.

  31. كفى نفاقا كفى غشا كفى كذبا

    منكم تبرأ دين الله والضاد

    Enough of your hypocrisy, lies, and falsehood!

    Through you, the religion of God and truth disavow.

  32. قد حصحص الحق فاسودت وجوهكم

    كما تلجلج نهاز وصياد

    The truth has been purified and your faces blackened

    As a hunter startles a deer.

  33. عند الصباح لكم رأي يناقضه

    رأي المساء فاصدر وإيراد

    In the morning you have an opinion which

    Contradicts the evening’s, yet you issue edicts.

  34. يا فتية الحق إن الله ناصركم

    زوروا الأعادي كما أجدادكم زاروا

    O youth of truth! God is your aide,

    Visit the enemies as your ancestors did.

  35. آن الأوان فشدوا من عزائمكم

    فأنتم لحماة الدين أحفاد

    Now is the time, fortify your resolve,

    You are the protectors of the faith, descendants of forefathers.

  36. وجردوا عن سيوف الحق إن لها

    جماجم الكفر عند الروع أغماد

    Unsheathe the swords of truth, for their edge

    Is the perishing of disbelief’s skulls.

  37. تزودوا للقاء الله وانطلقوا

    لنصره الحق والتقوى هي الزاد

    Prepare for God’s meeting and march forth

    To champion the truth – piety is the provision.

  38. آباؤنا الصيد صانوا ديننا قدما

    ودونه بذل الأرواح أجداد

    Our fathers protected our religion,

    And our ancestors sacrificed themselves for it.

  39. ونحن أبناؤهم لا نرتضي أبدا

    ذلا ولو كبلتنا اليوم أصفاد

    As their sons, we never accept

    Humiliation, even if chained today.

  40. ما كان للظلم أن يمحو عقيدتنا

    ولن يروق لنا كفر وإلحاد

    Injustice can never erase our creed,

    Nor will disbelief and atheism please us.

  41. نهاية الظلم يا بغداد واحدة

    الله والحق والتاريخ اشهاد

    The end of injustice is one, oh Baghdad:

    God, truth, and history bear witness!
