1. إلاّ يَذذْ عنها أساقِ بسيفه

    يكنْ بلداً بالتْ عليه الثعالبُ

    None but the brave deserves the fair

    Whose realm becomes, when press'd, their care

  2. ألتسمْ أحقَّ النّاس أنْ لا نريبكم

    بشيءٍ ولو دبتْ علينا العقاربُ

    Who never wrong'd a people yet,

    However oft beset

  3. رأى رُطّباً غَضّاً فأنساهُ دينَهُ

    وشجراءَ فيها يانعٌ مُتراكبُ

    He saw some ripen'd fruit that stole

    His better manhood and its goal

  4. فقلتُ له إنَّ الثمارَ التي ترى

    لقومٍ قَروْها العامَ إذ أنت غائبُ

    I said the fruits that tempt thine eyes

    Are, save when present, none of thine
