    We have come to You at Arafat, knowing our true worth,

    and our station... O Lord, exalted is Your majesty.

  2. We have come to commemorate the striving of Hagar, our mother,

    fearing for the nursing child that she herself might perish.

  3. We have come to Zamzam to drink our fill of its nectar.

    O water of Zamzam, quench us with your sweetness.

  4. And in Abraham we have the greatest lesson,

    and Ishmael’s ransom is one of the exalted glories of you both.

  5. We have come to al-Baqi to visit our foremost masters,

    who offered up their lives, counting them cheap for Your pleasure.

  6. We have come to the grave of our Prophet and our beloved,

    who used to behold You with a pure heart.

  7. We have come to You to wash away our sins with our tears,

    and fashion Your praise from the heartbeat.

  8. We have come to You, hoping that You will reunite our scattered company,

    so that those who strayed from the path of Your guidance may return.

  9. For the Muslims have failed one another, O our Lord,

    and split into sects here and there.

  10. The enemy has wrought havoc throughout our lands and homes.

    Your mercy, O Lord of all creation—Your mercy!

  11. By the sanctity of Your very Being, my God, be for us

    a help against our enemies and Yours.

  12. And to You, in the depths of the dark night, our supplications rise;

    no servant who communed with You in the darkness ever went away disappointed.
