1. ما زالَ مِنّا حامِلٌ لِلِوائِنا

    وَموقِدُ نارٍ لِلندَى حَيثُ أَظلَما

    Among us there remains a bearer of our banners

    And kindler of light for the dew wherever it is dark

  2. وَأَبقَت صُروفُ الدَهرِ مِنا عِصابَةً

    فَوارِسَ أَبطالاً وَرَجلاً عَرَمرَما

    And time's vicissitudes have left of us a group

    Valiant horsemen and a tottering old man

  3. وَجِذلٍ حِكاكٍ مَن يَرُمهُ مِن اِمرىءٍ

    يَجِد بِذِراعَيهِ وَلَبَّتِهِ دَما

    And a talkative old woman, whoever insults her

    Will find with her arms and bite blood
