My paradise is a hut, a desert, and roses,
and my beloved is to me both lord and servant;
and a dreamy, poetic morning
where I sing of love and lift my voice.
I keep the fetter far from my freedom—
whoever says that love is a fetter lies.
Oh, those eyes of his—and oh, what they do to me!
In them are warmth, radiance, and joy.
Here is the desert, my dominion; and I,
with my beloved, wield absolute sway through our wishes.
I make palaces of the sand, and I
upon their heights appear in royal splendor.
I see the cactus as my most radiant ornament;
it is my crown, anklet, and necklace.
I see the barren waste as gardens fresh and green;
within them I am a gazelle, frolicking and bounding.
My beloved, these are our dreams—
ah, if only a promise made to dreams would come true.
