يخفق القلبان، بل تهفو الشفاه

منذ أن ضمتك في شوق يداه

The hearts flutter, the lips sigh,

Since your hands held me in longing,

منذ أن رن صداها ، قبلة

نهلت منها وعلّت شفتاه !

Since its echo rang, a kiss,

I sipped from it, it wet my lips!

وارتوت روحاً كما بل ظمئت

برحيق القبلات المشتهاة

My soul was satiated, as if it had quenched its thirst,

With the nectar of the desired kisses,

بل رحيق الخلد قد طاب جناه

وسرى فيه حلاه وشذاه

Nay, with the nectar of eternity, its abode was pleasant,

Its charm and melody flowed through it.

يخفق القلبان بل تهفو الشفاه

حين يلقى ناظريك ناظراه

The hearts flutter, the lips sigh,

When my eyes meet yours,

حينما يستعر الحب جـوى

يكتوي القلبان من حر لظاه

Whenever love kindles its embers,

The hearts scorch from the heat of its flames.

فيرجي كل ثغر قبلة

هي برد للحنايا والشفاه

Each mouth longs for a kiss,

It is a balm for the sorrows and lips,

مثلما يطلب ريا ظامئ

ينظر الماء ولا يبلغ فاه !

Like a thirsty man seeking water,

Looking at it but cannot reach it!

يخفق القلبان ، بل تهفو الشفاه

كلما بشر بالحب الهُـداه

The hearts flutter, the lips sigh,

Whenever love’s guide brings good tidings,

كلما نادى المنادي حي هلا

يقطف المحروم ما طاب جناه

Whenever the caller calls out, “come on!”

Let the deprived pluck the ripe fruits.

ما لمحرومين لم يستمعا

ذلك الصوت لذي دوّى صداه

Those deprived who did not listen,

To that voice whose echo roared,

إيه هيّا ، فلنجب داعي الشفاه

فهو داعي الحب ، أو داعي الحياة

“Come on, let's answer the lips’ caller”,

He who calls to love, or calls to life.
