O my visitor in the evening, you once said one evening
That our tales will not be lost with the setting sun
And you told me that in my heart there is a monastery
Whose monks never stopped knocking on the bells
And that I have within the folds of my soul a song
That never ends except with my final breath
Until when you left me a fan in the light
I fold up the clouds and fear no oppression
You threw your spear in betrayal and struck me down
And went about laughing at my stupidity and passion
You left me in the gloom of days, lifeless,
Like a corpse folded in the eternity of obscurity
You left me sipping my sorrow like a minaret
Hollow, once left behind in Andalusia
O my visitor in the evening, my silence will kill me
Should I complain of love or complain of muteness?
O my visitor, I am melting away, and I am exposed
By a tear to all people that cannot be contained
To whom can I hide this beauty, O my agony,
And who will pluck from my purity and my blemish?
For whom are my folds, my breaths and my hearth,
And who will plunge into the water of eternity in my niche?
Will you really leave my heart like a shaken rug?
And shroud my world in the dust of the departed?
Will you really leave me for death to snatch me away
And not come running despite my cries?
Am I really a black stain, muddy?
Did I stain your white page with filth?
Woe is me! Would that I had not been his doll
Would that I had guarded my heart with caution
If only I had known what fate held in store
I would not have sailed on a wave of aridity
If only I had not let my heart lead me astray
The knight of dreams would not have been my predator
O dream visitor, leave my heart be and walk away
And I will not reveal what you left in Persia
