1. هاجَ المَنازِلُ رِحلةَ المُشتاقِ

    دِمَنٌ وآياتٌ لَبِثْنَ بَواقي

    The dwellings yearned for the journey of the longing one

    Blood and verses remained as ruins

  2. لَبِسَ الروامسُ والجديدُ بِلاهما

    فتركنَ مثلَ المهرقِ الأخلاقِ

    The bankruptcy wore new clothes without them

    So they left like torn morals

  3. للحارثيَّةِ ، قَبلَ أن تَنأى النَّوى

    بِهِمِ ، وإِذ هيَ لا تُريدُ فِراقي

    For al-Harithiya, before the motives withdrew

    With them, and when she does not want to part from me

  4. ومَجَرُّ سارِيةٍ تَجُرُّ ذُيولَها

    نوسَ النعامِ ، تناطُ بالأعناقِ

    And the orbit of a raised hand dragging its trains

    Like the plumage of ostriches, clinging to necks

  5. مِصرِيَّةٍ ، نَكباءَ أعرَضَ شَيمُها

    بأشابةٍ ، فزرودَ ، فالأفلاقِ

    An Egyptian woman, whose nature arrogance had turned away

    With an Abyssinian, so it mingled, and the horizon

  6. هَتكَتْ على عُوذِ النِّعَاجِ بُيوتَها

    فيقمعنَ للركباتِ ، والأوراقِ

    Her houses were ravaged over the shelters of sheep

    So they hurried to the riders, and the papers

  7. فتَرَى مَذانِبَ كُلِّ مَدفَعِ تَلْعةٍ

    عجلتْ سواقها من الإتآقِ

    So you see the flanks of every roaring canon

    Its drivers hurried from integration

  8. فكأَنَّ مَدفَعَ سَيل كُلِّ دَميثةٍ

    يعطى بذي هدبٍ ، من الأعلاقِ

    It is as if every blood-spiller canon

    Gives those with humps, from the summits

  9. منْ نسجِ بصرى والمدائن . نشرتْ

    للبيع يوم تحضُّرِ الأسواقِ

    From the weaving of Basra and the cities. She spread out

    For sale on the day the markets were prepared

  10. فوقفتُ فيها ناقتي ، فتحنَّنتْ

    لِهَوَى الرَّواحِ ، تَتُوقُ كُلَّ مَتاقِ

    So I stopped my she-camel there, and she yearned

    For the passion of the wind, craving every pleasure

  11. أَرسَلتُ هَوجاءَ النَّجاءِ ، كأنَّها

    إذْ همَّ أسفلُ حشوها بنفاقِ

    I sent the madwomen of salvation, as if

    When the contents of her abdomen intrigued with hypocrisy

  12. متخرّفٌ ، سلبَ الربيعُ رداءهُ

    صخبُ الظلامِ ، يجيبُ كلَّ نهاقِ

    A wanderer, whom spring had stripped of his cloak

    The clamor of darkness, answering every brayer

  13. منْ أخدِ ريَّاتِ الدَّنا ، التفعتْ لهُ

    بُهْمَى النِّقاعِ ، وَلَجَّ في إِحناقِ

    Who took the scraps of the lowly world, it cooked for him

    With the gloom of squalor, and he entered into strangulation

  14. صخبُ الشواربِ والوتينِ ، كأنَّه

    مما يُغَرِّدُ مَوهِنا بِخِناقِ

    The clamor of the moustaches and braids, as if it

    Is what our weakness chirps with strangulation

  15. في عانةٍ شُسُبٍ ، أَشَدَّ جِحاشَها ،

    شُزُبٍ ، كأَقواسِ السَّراءِ ، دِقاقِ

    In a dazed state, its blindness intensifies,

    Dishevelled, like the arcs of Sira’a, thin

  16. وكأنَّ ريقتها ، إذا نبَّتها ،

    كأسٌ ، يُصَفِّقُها لِشُربٍ ساقي

    And its saliva, when it oozes, is like

    A cup, which a pourer claps for a drinker

  17. صِرْفٌ ، تَرَى قَعرَ الإِناءِ وَرَاءَهَا

    تودي بعقلِ المرءِ قبلَ فواقِ

    A draft, you see the bottom of the vessel behind it

    It would take away the mind of a person before awareness

  18. ينسى للذَّتها أصالةَ حلمهِ

    فيَظَلُّ بَينَ النَّومِ والإِطراقِ

    He forgets the origin of his dream in its pleasure

    And remains between sleep and dozing

  19. ٠فتَرَى النِّعاجَ بِها ، تَمشَّى خِلْفةً

    مشي العباديّينَ في الأمواقِ

    So you see the sheep walking behind it in single file

    Like the walk of devotees in sanctuaries

  20. يسمرنَ وحفاً ، فوقه ماءُ النَّدى ،

    والنَّبتَ ، كلَّ علاقةٍ ونطاقِ

    They stand still in a circle, above them the dew water,

    And vegetation, every bond and range

  21. ولقد هبطتُ الغيثَ ، حلَّ به النَّدى

    يرففنَ فاضلهُ على الأشداقِ

    And I had descended rain, on which dew descended

    Spilling its surplus upon the lips

  22. أَهدِي بهِ سَلَفا ، يَكونُ حَدِيثُهُمْ

    خَطَرا ، وذِكرَ تَقَامِرٍ وسِباقِ

    I gift it to predecessors, so it would be their

    Talk, and mention of gambling and racing

  23. حتى إذا جاءَ المثوبُ ، قدْ رأى

    أسداً ، وطالَ نواجذُ المفراقِ

    Until when the found came, it had seen

    A lion, and the tufts of separation became long

  24. لَبِسوا ، مِنَ الماذِيِّ ، كُلَّ مُفاضةٍ

    كالنّهِي ، يَومَ رياحِهِ ، الرَّقراقِ

    They wore, of soft leather, every deluge

    Like the anklets, on its windy day, tinkling

  25. منْ نسجِ دوادٍ ، وآلِ محرقٍ

    غالٍ غَرائبُهُنَّ في الا فاقِ

    Of the weaving of Duwad and the House of Muhriq

    Its oddities are expensive in the horizons

  26. ومنَحتُهُم نَفسي ، وآمِنةَ الشَّظَى

    جَرداءَ ، ذاتَ كَرِيهةٍ ونِزاقِ

    And I gave them myself, and the security of barrenness

    Bare, of ugly nature and bickering

  27. كالصَّعدةِ الجرداءِ ، آمنَ خوفها

    لطفُ الدَّواءِ ، وأكرمُ الأعراقِ

    Like bare jaundice, its fear is secured

    By the kindness of medicine, and the most generous of constitutions

  28. تشأى الجيادَ ، فيعترينَ لشأوها

    وإِذا شأَوا لحِقَتْ بحُسنِ لَحاقِ

    It desires the steeds, so they are ridden because of its desire

    And when they desire, they catch up with beauty of pace

  29. وأَصَمَّ صَدقا ، مِن رِماحِ رُدَينةٍ

    بيدي غلامِ كريهةٍ ، مخراقِ

    And it silenced truth, with the spears of Rudaina

    With my hand, an unpleasant adolescent, tearing

  30. شاكٍ ، يشدُّ على المضافِ ، ويدَّعي

    إذْ لاتوافقُ شعبتا الإيفاقِ

    Doubtful, insisting on the addition, and claiming

    When the two statements of spending do not agree

  31. إني امرؤ ، من عصبةٍ سعديَّةٍ

    ذر بى الأسنَّةِ كلَّ يومِ تلاقي

    I am a man, from the Sa’idi tribe

    Leave the sons of donkeys every day you meet

  32. لا يَنظُرونَ إِذا الكَتِيبةُ أَحجَمَتْ

    نظرَ الجمالِ ، كربنَ بالأوساقِ

    They do not look when the battalion recoils

    The look of camels, they fled with the fleeces

  33. يكفونَ غاسبهمْ ، ويقضى أمرهمْ

    في غيرِ نقصٍ منهمُ ، وشقاقِ

    They restrain their adversary, and their matter is decided

    Without any defect in them, and conflict

  34. والخَيلُ تَعلمُ مَن يَبُلُّ نُحورَها

    بدَمٍ ، كماءِ العَنْدَمِ المُهرَاقِ

    And the horses know who wets their necks

    With blood, like spilled sweet basil juice
