Upon the twinkling stars' throbbing

فتسرح فوق فراش الغمام

وتمرح تحت غصون الشجر

To wander above the clouds' bed

And frolic beneath the branches

وتحملها زفرات النسيم

فيعلق بالصبح منا أثر

With the breeze's sighs carrying them

Leaving at dawn a trace of us

خلفتك من خفقات القلوب

ورف العيون وهش السحر

I miss you, with hearts fluttering

Eyes welling, dawn's magic whisper

ومن بهجة الروض غب الربيع

البليل ومن وشوشات السمر

And the garden's springtime joy

At dusk, and the brown girl's chatter

فأنت من الحلم أنقى وأبهى

وأنعم من لفتات الذكر

For you are of dreams the purest, finest

And softer than memories murmured

وانك فوق بلوغ المنى

ومرمى الخيال وظن البشر

You are beyond attained wishes

Fantasy's aim and mankind's notion

سألتك إما صبوتِ إلى

سواي فتى فاكتميني الخبر

I asked, did you ever incline

To another, disclose to me the secret
