1. ما لقصر الزهور أضحى كئيباً

    بعد أن كان بهجة الأزمانِ

    What ails this palace of flowers that it has become so gloomy,

    After it was once the joy of eras?

  2. جلّلوا بالسواد بنيانَه الشامخَ

    ثم انطوى على الأحزان

    They draped its lofty structure in black,

    Then it shrouded itself in sorrows.

  3. ذهب الموت بالمليك المفدّى

    لم يبال بالتاج والصولجان

    Death has taken the precious king,

    Caring not for crown or scepter.

  4. لم يقف دونه الشباب ولم يعصم

    من الموت عزةُ السلطان

    Neither youth could stand before it,

    Nor could the sultan's might protect him from death.

  5. ملكُ صاغه الإله من القوة

    والحزم والنُهى والحنان

    A king forged by God from strength,

    Decisiveness, interdiction and tenderness.

  6. والمنايا مجنونةٌ لا تبالي

    ذهبت بالجريء أو بالجبان

    Yet death is a madwoman who cares not,

    Taking both the brave and the coward alike.

  7. أيه قصر الزهور رزؤك عم الكون

    حزناً وقد بكى الحرمان

    O palace of flowers, your grief has enveloped the universe,

    With sorrow, as deprivation itself wept.

  8. الشباب الجريء والهمةُ النعساء

    والمجدُ والحجى والأماني

    The brave youth, the sleeping ambition,

    The glory, the refuge and the wishes -

  9. كلها روّعت لفقدك يا غازي

    وجادت بدمعها الهتان

    They all shuddered at losing you, O warrior,

    And shed their tears in torrents.

  10. قم أبا فيصل فتاة فلسطين

    تناديك من مجال الطعان

    Rise, O Abu Faisal, for Palestine calls you

    From the arena of spears.

  11. هتكوا سترها أغاروا عليها

    مزّقوها بالسيف والنيران

    They violated her honor and envied her jealously,

    Tearing her with swords and fires.

  12. صرخت والجراح تنغر منها

    وهي حيرى مخضلة الأجفان

    She screamed as wounds gaped within her,

    Bewildered, her eyelids bruised.

  13. أين غازي أين حامي

    الإسلام والإيمان

    Where is the warrior, where is the defender

    Of Islam and faith?

  14. جاءها نعيه فخاب رجاها

    يا لهول المصاب يا للأماني

    The news of his death came and dashed her hopes -

    Oh, the horror of affliction, oh the wishes!

  15. ثم صالت وقد تملكها اليأس

    بكفّ مخضوبة وبنان

    Then she prayed as despair overcame her,

    With blood-smeared palms and shining teeth.

  16. فهوى عزمها وخارت قواها

    من صراخ الإرهاق والطغيان

    Her resolve collapsed and her strength faded

    From screams of exhaustion and tyranny.

  17. وهوت فوق تربة الوطن الغالي

    بسهم أصابها بالجنان

    She fell upon the soil of the precious homeland,

    Struck by an arrow piercing her side.

  18. زأرت وهي في يد المنية يا قوم

    لقد متُّ في هوى الأوطان

    She roared as death took her, "Oh my people!

    I die longing for the homelands."

  19. أيها الشرق خطم القيد وانهض

    للمعالي لا عاش كل جبان

    O Orient, tear off your chains and rise

    To the summit - may every coward live in disgrace!

  20. وكؤوس المنون في طلب العلياء

    أشهى من عيشه في هوان

    And cups of death in pursuit of glory

    Are sweeter than living in humiliation.

  21. آيه آل الرسول صبراً على الرزءِ

    فهذي صناعة الحدثان

    O House of the Prophet, be patient in hardship,

    For this is the work of the Fates.

  22. أمم قد خلَت وأخرى ستمضى

    فلكٌ لا يني عن الدوران

    Nations have passed and others will pass,

    For it is the nature of the turning heavens.

  23. وعزاء للآل أن البرايا

    شاركت بالمصاب والأحزان

    And solace for the House is that the wilds

    Shared in the affliction and the sorrows.

  24. وعزاء لنا الأمير المفدّى

    عاش للمجد والندى والطعان

    And solace for us is the precious Prince -

    He lived for glory, dew and spears.

  25. دوحة بارك الإله جناها

    فإذا مات مصلح قام باني

    Doha, may God bless its shelter,

    For if one reformer dies, another will build.
