Do not be stingy with tears, O eye, for tears
When the vicissitudes of fate become dear
Shed tears and spill from the blood of the wounded heart
And irrigate the battlefields of heroes
They won life with pride
And adorned it with banners of beauty
They are guiding stars, illuminated the universe for us
And paved the way to glory
So reminisce about heroism and glory
And revive the determination of youth
And preserve, O eras, the memory of my father
Al-Mundhir, the pride of youth for generations
A man who was courageous, decisive
And excellent in adversity, the best example
Fate took him in the prime of his life
A steadfast friend, his only care was perfection
O minister of youth! Where is the youth
Like the spring of time, glorious in light?
Which the hand of misery has folded, so a
Nation wept for him, its provision in struggle
A procession for the minister, too short for the eye
Flooded with sorrow, majestic in terror
In it they bid farewell to hopes’ glimmers
And departed in dark trailing robes
How can youth pass in life’s sorrows
And morn grows hostage to the sands?
Jordan wept bitterly for her eldest son
The pillar of hope and aspirations
How many eyes shed generous tears
That if weeping could prolong lives
Sleep, Abu Al-Mundhir, rest from worries
And from a woeful, fading abode
And long life is pointless for those who know the world
And experience its days and nights
Wretched, wretched are those who know the world
Or exceed the veils of imagination
This life is configured for plotting
And so it spelled doom for generations
Its sons are the worst of sons on earth
Some scheming, some impudent
Maybe you do good and they reward you
With evil for righteous deeds
All in this world is conflict over living
And resentment that burns men’s hearts
How many a youth shows loyalty and gives you
Whatever noble traits you wish
Proclaims love, claims sincerity of affection
And harbors ruinous thoughts
Nations like wolves preying on the weak
Violent, and all doomed to decline
O Jordanian youth, the situation is grave
So patience with the nights’ changes
We are all bound for the watering places of death
Tasting loss for our efforts
Whoever wants immortality in this life
His efforts are wasted, impossible
Only the generous are immortalized through time
And the good deed lives
