1. Sing—may I be your ransom—sing!

    Parting has doubled my sorrow,

  2. and tears have made my eyelid sore;

    all night I have lamented cruel wrong.

  3. Sing, that perhaps I may find solace;

    my homeland and my people have gone far away.

  4. If only my scattered circle could be reunited,

    and the lovesick one could hear my song.

  5. O groves of the two Nayrabs,

    and quarters of the two Ghoutas,

  6. I wonder—shall I feast my eyes

    on the beauty of a luxuriant garden?

  7. And O abodes of al-Sham,

    cradle of youth and passionate love,

  8. I thirst for your beauty,

    for within you is the Garden of Eden.

  9. Long has my yearning for you endured,

    and separation is bitter to taste.

  10. I remain faithful to the covenant,

    O cherished wish of the one who yearns!
