1. يا بلبلاً يصدح في غصنه

    فيرقص الوادي على لحنه

    O nightingale, singing out upon its branch,

    the valley dances to its melody.

  2. كم قد أفاق الزهر من حلمه

    نشوان بالألحان من فنه

    How often the flowers have awakened from their dream,

    intoxicated by melodies born of its art.

  3. والجدول المفتون قد صفقت

    أمواهه للطير في وكنه

    And the enchanted brook—its waters have clapped

    for the bird within its nest.

  4. جاء الربيع الطلق مستبشراً

    يسكر هذا الكون من دنه

    Spring, bright and free, has come rejoicing;

    this universe grows drunk from its wine jar.

  5. غرّد على قيثارة سحرها

    يسعد قلب المدنف الهائم

    Sing to the lyre of its enchantment,

    to gladden the heart of the lovesick wanderer.

  6. غرّد فهذا الكون مصغ لما

    تسكبه من لحنك الساجم

    Sing—for this universe listens to what

    you pour forth from your flowing melody.

  7. وانشد مع الفجر أغاني الصبا

    واغنم ليالي عيشك الناعم

    And sing with the dawn the songs of youth;

    make the most of the nights of your gentle life.

  8. ما العمر إلا حلم ينقضي

    وليس ذاك الحلم بالدائم

    Life is nothing but a dream that passes,

    and that dream does not endure.

  9. غداً يجف الزهر في روضه

    وينضب الماء ويعرى الشجر

    Tomorrow the flowers will wither in its garden,

    the water will dry up, and the trees grow bare.

  10. ويقفر يجف الزهر في روضه

    فيه ولا صبّ يناجي القمر

    And it will grow desolate; the flowers will wither in its garden,

    with no ardent lover in it to commune with the moon.

  11. والبلبل الغريد واحسرتا

    يطويه صرف الدهر فيمن غبر

    And the sweet-singing nightingale—alas!—

    the turns of time will fold him among those gone before.

  12. لا كائن يبقى بهذا الورى

    بل يخلد الحب وتفنى الصور

    No being remains in this world;

    rather, love lives forever, while forms pass away.
