1. أبشري يا دمشقُ بالأبطال

    عاد اسد الثرى ليوث القتالِ

    Rejoice, O Damascus, with the heroes

    The lion of the land, the hero of combat has returned

  2. ملأوا حصنك الأشم رجالاً

    سادة ذادة ولا كالرجال

    They have filled your citadel with brave men

    Noble, generous men like no other men

  3. انهضي يا دمشق واستقبلي

    النبل وحي حماة الاستقلال

    Arise, O Damascus, and welcome

    The nobility and the protectors of independence

  4. اضفري الغار شهب أنجمك الزهر

    وزيني مفارق الأبطال

    Adorn your citadel with stars like flowers

    And decorate the abodes of the heroes

  5. وحريّ بان تتوج بالشمس جباه

    الأحرار بيض الفعال

    And it is fitting that the foreheads of the free

    Pure of deed, be crowned with the sun

  6. جاهدوا بالنفوس والمال حتى

    بلغوا ذروة السماك العالي

    They struggled with their souls and wealth until

    They reached the summit of high loftiness

  7. كان قربانهم على مذبح الحق

    دماء الأخوان والأنجال

    Their offering upon the altar of truth

    Was the blood of brothers and sons

  8. قد أضاءت سوفهم غيهب الظلم

    فبان الطريق نحو الكمال

    Their swords illuminated the darkness of injustice

    And the path to perfection became clear

  9. لم يبالوا بالتنك يوماً وبالمدفع

    يزَجّي الأهوال بالأهوال

    They never cared for artillery

    Raining down terror and more terror

  10. صبروا والسماء تمطرهم ناراً

    تزيل الجبال قبل الرجال

    They endured as the sky rained fire upon them

    That removes mountains before men

  11. أيه وادي السرحان بئست لياليك

    ولا عاش ذكرها في البال

    Oh valley of sorrows, wretched were your nights

    Whose memory lives on in the mind

  12. كان فيها الكريم يطوي على الجوع

    ويغفو على الحصى والرمال

    In them the noble suffered from hunger

    And slept on gravel and sands

  13. قد كواه النوى وصب عليه الدهر

    ارزاءه بكل مجال

    Age condemned him and poured upon him

    Its calamities from all sides

  14. ويزيد الفؤاد جرحاً على جرح

    أنين النساء والأطفال

    And the heart is wounded, wound upon wound

    From the cries of women and children

  15. علم اللَه ما أذاقتهمُ الأيام

    من مرّها وسود الليالي

    God knows what days have made them taste

    Of their bitter poison and dark nights

  16. قد تولى بشرّه ذلك العهد

    ودالت حكومة للضلال

    That era assumed good tidings for them

    And a government came to wrongdoing

  17. كل ملك يقوم يوماً على الظلم

    بناءٌ مصيره للزوال

    Every unjust kingdom built on oppression

    Is destined for downfall

  18. عرب الشام إنهضوا ببلاد

    زانها اللَه بالسنا والجمال

    O Arabs of Damascus, arise for the land

    Beautified by God with brilliance and grace

  19. شيّدوا الملكَ بالعدالة والحق

    وحوّطوه بالرماح العوالي

    Build the kingdom on justice and truth

    And surround it with towering spears

  20. ليس يحيى حقّ الشعوب إذا لم

    تحمه بالمهند الفصال

    No people's rights can live if they do not

    Shield it with impartial swords

  21. أيه رمزَ الأمجاد رفرِف على الدهر

    وكن عالياً مدى الأجيال

    O symbol of glory, flutter over the ages

    And remain lofty for generations to come

  22. أنت رمزُ الاباء رمز بني يعرب

    نفديك بالنفوس الغوالي

    You are the symbol of our forefathers, the symbol of the Arabs

    We ransom you with our precious souls
