    يا ربة الحُسن المصون

    I fear for you from prying eyes,

    O epitome of protected beauty.

  2. بيضاءُ كالزنبق في الأكمام

    أو كالياسمين

    Whiter than lilies in their sleeves,

    Or jasmine,

  3. أحلى من الورد الجني

    ومن تهاويل الفنون

    Sweeter than roses plucked new,

    And the caprices of art.

  4. عينان حالمتان يبدو

    الطهر فيها والفتون

    Two dreamy eyes appear,

    Purity and charm in them.

  5. تحكي إذا هي حدّثَت

    سجع الحمائم في

    When they speak, they relate

    The cooing of doves

  6. ماست بأبراد الجمال

    وزانها الخلق المتين

    In the thickets of beauty.

    Their composer, the Firm Creator.

  7. يا أيها الملك الكريم

    وآيةُ الحسن المبين

    O generous king,

    And sign of obvious beauty.

  8. يا بسمة الأمل الطروب

    وفرّة القلب الحزين

    O smile of cherished hope,

    And relief of the sorrowful heart.

  9. لولاك كنت غداة عاودني

    الضنى في الذاهبين

    Without you, grief would have

    Revisited me at dawn.

  10. مرّت يداك على جراحي

    فالتأمين وقد شفين

    You passed your hand over my wounds,

    Healing and mending me.

  11. لكنّ جرحاً دامياً في الق

    لب لم يشف السنين

    But my heart still bleeds from a deep wound

    The years have not yet cured.

  12. لو تعلمين بما أكن

    من الجوى لو تعلمين

    If you but knew the passion I harbor,

    If you but knew.

  13. يا ميّ لو تدرين ما أخفي

    من الهم الدفين

    O Mayya, if you but knew what I hide

    Of buried anguish.

  14. يا مي بين جوانحي

    شتى النوازع والشجون

    O Mayya, in my heart are kinds

    Of urges and passions.

  15. قد جئتُ التمس الشفاءَ

    فعدتُ من صرعى العيون
