قل لمن خاس بعهدي

أي ذنبٍ قد جنيته

Tell whoever reproached me,

What crime have I committed?

صُنتُ سر الحب جهدي

في ضميري وطويتُه

I protected the secret of love with all my might,

And kept it buried in my conscience.

حذَر الواشين والعذال

في أمر نويته

I was wary of the faultfinders and slanderers,

In a matter I intended.

فجفاني غير آسٍ

بيد أني ما قليتُه

Yet I was abandoned, though not disconsolate,

Despite being betrayed.

فله ما شاء مني

فبروحي قد فديته

So let him have what he wants from me,

For I have ransomed him with my soul.

سوف لا أنسى غراما

بدم القلب سقيته

I shall not forget love

That I have watered with the blood of my heart.

هات لي كاساً وكاسا

عليّ بالسكرة أنسى

Bring me a cup, nay cups,

Intoxicate me with wine so I forget

إسقني حتى أرى من

سكريَ الواحد خمسا

Give me drink until I see

One as five in my drunkenness

اسقني حتى تراني

صرت لا أملك حسا

Give me drink until you see me

As one who has lost all senses

أفرغ الدنّ ولا تبقِ

بهذا الجيب فلسا

Empty the cask, and leave

Not a penny in this pocket

لك ما شئت من المال

ولا تبخل فتأسى

You may have what you wish of money

Do not be stingy and grieve me

أنا طلّقت وقاري

ورأيتُ العقل حبسا

I have dismissed my dignity

And seen reason as captivity

كلنا يفنى ولن تبقي

يدُ الأيامِ نفسا

We all pass away, and none will remain

At the hands of time, not a soul

هكذا وعظُ الليال

وكفى بالدهر درسا

Thus the nights preach

And time's passage is lesson enough

فاغنم العمر ولا

تترك بهذا العيش أنسا

So enjoy life, and do not

Neglect the joys of this existence
