ترعى عهود الحب دامي الجراح

أكلما تذكر عهد الهوى

تخفق كالطير مهيض الجناح

Whenever you remember the covenant of love,

You flutter like a bird with broken wings.

مالي أعزيك فما ترعوي

أما لهذا الهيم يوما براح

Why should I console you when you do not rest?

Will this sorrow not one day be relieved?

غال الأسى أغلى أماني الصبا

ولم يدَع غيرَ بقايا شحاح

Longing grew dearer than the dreams of youth,

And left nothing but the remnants of deprivation.

فدىً لعينيها شبابي

وذا قلبي المضنى لهواها مباح

My youth was sacrificed for her eyes,

And here is my weary heart, open to her love.
