أناشدُك اللَه يا قاسيه

أأنتِ لعهد الهوى ناسيه

نسيت كأن لم يكن بيننا

لقاءٌ فحطّمتِ آماليه

You have forgotten as if nothing was between us

No meeting that kindled my hopes

بعينيك شمت انطفاء الهوى

وقد خبت الشعلة الساميه

In your eyes I saw the fading of passion

And the lofty flame has died down

أما تذكرين عهود الصبا

وأيامنا الحلوة الماضيه

Do you not remember the vows of youth

And our sweet days of the past?

وأنت فديتك يا منيتي

على القلب آمرة ناهيه

You, my dear, who rules my heart

Commanding and forbidding

ويجمعنا الروض عند الأصيل

وفي ظل سرحته العاليه

The meadow brought us together at nightfall

In the shade of its lofty trees

وكنت أبثُّك نجوى الغرا

م وأشرحُ وجدي واشجانيه

I would confide to you the secrets of love

And reveal my fervor and longing

وكم كنت تشكين مرّ الفرا

ق وتذرينَ أدمعك الهاميه

How much you used to complain of the agony of separation

And shed your falling tears

لآليء لكنّ حبّاتها

تجف على حر أنفاسيه

Like pearls, but their beads

Dry up in the heat of my breath

مجالسنا في ضفاف الغدير

خلت فهي موحشة خاويه

Our gatherings on the riverbanks

Are now desolate and empty

وقد وجم الروض لا نبته

نضير ولا طيره شاديه

The meadow has withered, no flowers

No fellow bird singing joyfully

تسائل عنا أزاهيرُه

وأطياره النسمة الساريه

Its flowers ask about us

And the gentle passing breeze

هواك أثار بقلبي الأسى

وجار على كبدي الداميه

Your love has stirred sorrow in my heart

Flowing painfully in my bosom

يهزّني الشوق اما ادّكرت

وتستعر المهجة الظاميه

Yearning shakes me when I remember

And my dark entrails kindle

أراك بطرف الخيال الجموح

كأنك ما زلت لي وافيه

I see you in my wandering imagination

As if you are still true to me

فأنت بقلبي وفي خاطري

وفي العين نائية دانيه

So you are in my heart and thoughts

And in my eyes, close yet distant

شفاهك كم تستثير الجوى

وتحلم بالقبل الدافيه

Your lips, how they provoke passion

And dream of fervent kisses

فادنوا إليها أروّي الصدى

وعيناك في نشوة غافيه

Come near them, I will quench their thirst

While your eyes are languidly sleepy

وتُسكرني قبلات الهوى

ترفُّ على الشفةِ القانيه

The kisses of love intoxicate me

Fluttering on my devout lips

واغفو على حلمٍ فاتن

تهدهده النظرة الساجيه

And I fall asleep dreaming of you

Lulled by your amorous gaze

ولحظك كم ذا يتيه الخيال

بآفاقه الرحبة النائيه

How your glance makes my imagination wander

In its vast and distant horizons

مضت تلكمُ اللحظات العذابُ

وابقت سعيراً باحشائيه

Those moments of torment have passed

Leaving raging flames inside me

فيا قلب صبرا فإن الحياة

على الغدر مطبوعة باقيه

So patience, O heart, for life

Remains deceptive as ever

بلوت الزمان واهل الزمان

وترجو الوفاء من الغانيه

I have tasted the pain of fate and time

Yet still hope for loyalty from the unfaithful
