وَافلتهُنَّ المُسحَلانِ وَقَد رَأى
بِعَينَيهِ نَقعاً ساطِعاً قَد تَكَوثَرا
He let them drink from the flowing streams, and saw
With his own eyes a shining marsh where they multiplied,
وَيَوماً عَلى ماءِ البَزاخَةِ خالِدٌ
أَثارَ بِها في هَبوَةِ المَوتِ عِثيَرا
And one day by the Bazakha's water Khaled
Stirred up with it in the gust of death abundant confusion,
وَمَثَّلَ في حافاتِها كُلَّ مَثلَةٍ
كَفِعلِ كِلابٍ هارَشَت ثُمَّ شَمَّرا
And on its banks he exemplified every kind of mutilation
As dogs would do, biting then baring their teeth.
