إيثارُكَ الناسَ عُقباهُ الجحيمُ إذا

ما أنتَ أمعْنتَ فيهِ ناسيًا نفسَكْ

Preferring others over yourself leads to hell

When you lose yourself in selflessness

كحالِ مُسْتَغْفَلٍ أعطاكَ مجّانًا

للتوِّ بيتينِ فاقبلْ وادَّخِرْ فلسَكْ

Like a fool who gave you two verses for free

So take them and treasure your penny

آثرْتَ ناسًا عليكَ اسْتكثرُوا الدّنْيا

قليلَ نعمائِها ما اسْتكثرُوا بُؤسَكْ

You preferred others over yourself, they indulged in worldly pleasures

Caring little for your misery

حتّى إذا عُرِّفَ الإيثارُ أنَّبْتَ ال

طفلَ الّذي كُنتهُ يا "مهِملًا درْسَكْ"

Until selflessness made clear, you cried

"Oh neglectful of your lessons"

أفرغْتَ ما فيْ كؤوسِهمْ منَ الهمِّ

كيْ تملأَ منْ ثقيلِ همِّهم كأسَكْ

You emptied their cups of worries

To fill your cup with their heavy worries

إذا أتوكَ لحاجةٍ لهمْ قُمتَ

لها كأنَّ مريدَ الجنِّ قدْ مسَّكْ

If they came to you with a need, you rose

As if a jinn has touched you

فإنْ همستَ بِما اعْتراكَ مِنْ غمٍّ

تفاقرُوا وكفَوا بمدحهِم رأسَكْ

If you whispered of the worries that afflicted you

They bragged and praised you

أبكاكَ أنْ بدَّلوا الإسلامَ إلحاداَ

ولمْ تؤدِّ فريضةً ولا مَنْسَكْ

It made you cry that they replaced Islam with atheism

And you did not perform a duty or ritual

ترْجو لهُمُ النّجاةَ في الحياتينِ

مغالبًا تعسَهم وراضيًا تُعسَكْ

You wish them salvation in both lives

Overcoming their misery and yours

عظّمت ما ملكُوا وما بنَوا زمنًا

فتاجَروا فِيكَ حتّى ضيَّعوا قُدْسَكْ

You magnified what they owned and built for a time

So they traded you until they lost your sanctity

آثرتَ واسْتأثروا أمسِ عسَى ألّا

يضيعَ يومٌ أضعْتَ قبلَهُ أمسَكْ

You preferred and they indulged, hopefully

A day will not be lost where the day before it was
