Visit me as an illusion, I will visit you with passion and blood

Consider me an enemy, I will consider you obedience and loyalty

Write to me letters that overflow with estrangement

I will write to you poems that overflow with sincerity

Return my yearning to you disappointed, so it suffices

It is pride that the passion for God prevails in my heart

Inflame it with fire, fascinate it, though we did not own it

Reproach with your eyelids, peacefully and without sorrow

Shall I not repay the small debt, while you

Gifted me the secret of the secrets of eternity before

The heart fell in love, taking refuge, though it shuddered

And its light never swerved from its path, never turned

You taught it what through it is known amongst mankind

And death is better for he who turned away from its knowledge

And you were then God's kindness when you were kind

And the day you were absent was as if existence shuddered

I was certain when I escaped from your fires

That your heart and passion had differed

When the heart broke its promise with estrangement

While passion extended a hand and did not weaken

So knowledge opposed what it taught another

The state of knowledge when the teacher deviates

Believe words that describe your passion

And leave words that falsely portray it
