What awaits me! What is my expectation! What is my endurance!

What is my coming! What is my going! What is my sitting!

If I become incapable of carrying my sword

To defend my existence and being

    And I stand mute unable

    To say no to quasi-apes

And I fail to get a loaf which has become

A lying promise like the rest of my promises

And I drink mud while my

Enemy drinks its clarity behind the dams

And I eat dry bread while oil lights up

Like stars above the mountains of my ancestors

And I walk the walk of the limping so that

The face does not take my share of the food

And I roof my house with palm fronds while my palace

Is only two miles from my border

And I sneak like a night dog whenever the winds

    Smell gunpowder from the soldiers

And I connect the darkness with light to earn

Two measly coins from the progeny of the Indians

And I ride my feet so I can spend the night

Among my family while the road is uphill

And I rejoice whenever my boss buys

A luxury “Audi” car with my blood money

And I bow twice to the heir

So he extends my mother’s bank with money

And I sharpen the nail of the sheikh of sedition so

I can light up for two hours with firewood

And I go out barefoot until I congratulate

What remains of remnants with resilience

And I gloat over a relative and rejoice

At the victory of my homeland’s archenemy

And I thanked those who came to me with Jews

Because they returned to reinforce my resilience!

And free me from my ancestors’ myths!

And liberate my women from my shackles!

And call for the right to deviance

And bring back Sodom into existence

What is my prayer! What is my crying! What is my fasting!

What is my prayer! What is my bowing! What is my prostration!

If I bent their path the course of my messenger

And alienation sufficed, without my answers

And I witnessed their beating of my sister Nisa

Casting blame on her with composure

And I choked the truth while it is a father protecting

Those who married my mother to a Jew

And I disobeyed God openly so it is said

That my thinking is free from rigidity

And I took pride in a forefather who bites like a lion

Despite having lived a slave to apes
