From the hardship and evil of days
And its insistent grief and tyranny
Curses for these fleeting times
And for those who scheme with schemes
Warriors, evaders and abstainers
Triflers, castigators in hardship
Disputers, deceivers and wrestlers
Combatants, racers in harm's way
Whose nature is breaking covenants
And promises, even if suffering ensues
That never stays firmly in one place
Rather, a man's prime never rests
How often he presented a full glass
Bitterness, making me drink grief
Unceasingly striking me with arrows of misfortune
And showing me fear striking in haste
How often did I seek to kiss the hand
Of one excessive in righteousness
And my soul was delighted when my eyes fell
Upon the prince, Egypt's dear one
That star who shamed the dawn
And the horizon when his full moon rose
A hero, your deeds show you ‘Antara’s peer
Some days are seen shrouded in his chest
Riding the steeds of doom so fast
Lightening measured his pace's speed
That’s why none saw you but flee
Wounded in the back by your blow
Yours the sacrifice, from the noble swordsman
And victor whom God called to victory
The one who left in these times
A noble, sung by people's tales
Who graced leadership by his excellence
He is the most able commander
He whom the Turks' tongues never cease to praise
In prose and verse, for all his days
He shows gratitude and praise always
Publicly and privately, for as long as he prays
Saying, my Lord, may you ever aid
and establish the singular in his time
As long as the sun rises and sets
Illuminating dawn and glowing dusk
