والنحس ولى وانتفى

Good fortune aided him and kept faith.

And ill fortune turned away and vanished.

فاستبشري يا فيئة

قد ساءها فرط الجفا

So rejoice, O company,

whom excessive estrangement has grieved.

فاليوسفان تثلثت

أسماؤهم ذات الصفا

For the two Josephs have become three;

their names are endowed with purity.

فرحاتهم مقدامهم

باليوسفين تولفا

Farhat, their champion,

joined in fellowship with the two Josephs.

طبع الكحيل مهذبٌ

نطق القريصاتي شفا

Al-Kuhayl’s nature is refined;

al-Quraysati’s speech is healing.

قد انعم المولى بهم

والدهر جاد أسعفا

The Lord has favored us with them,

and Time grew generous and brought good fortune.

أوصافهم محمودةٌ

فيها سماعي شنّفا

Their qualities are praiseworthy;

they have delighted my hearing.

محمودةٌ اراوهم

تبدي الصواب إذا اختفى

Praiseworthy are their opinions,

revealing what is right when it lies hidden.

ما فاه كلٌّ منهم

بالقول الا انصفا

Not one of them ever spoke

without being just in what he said.

آدابهم مشعورةٌ

فيها المديح تألفا

Their refinements are fit for verse;

through them, praise was composed.

والترك في أشعاره

أوفى وجاد وتحّفا

And al-Turk, in his poems,

fulfilled his due, gave freely, and offered gifts.

هاداهم في تحفة

منظومها قد ظُرّفا

He gave them this keepsake,

whose verse has been graced with elegance.

حازت معانيها على

نصحٍ حميدٍ لطّفا

Its meanings have attained

worthy counsel, graciously expressed.

يا يوسفٌ مع يوسفٍ

بالصدق ودوار يوسفا

O Joseph, together with Joseph,

be sincere—and deal tactfully with Joseph.

كونوا فوادًا واحداً

أصغوا لقولٍ شرفا

Be one heart,

and heed a noble word.

الله في الإنذار عن

فضل المحبة عرّفا

God, in His admonition, made known

the virtue of love.

إذا قال في انجيله

سامح أخاك إذا هفا

When He said in His Gospel,

“Forgive your brother when he stumbles.”

سبحانه ما حثنا

الا عليها واكتفى

Glory be to Him: He urged us

to nothing but love, and deemed it enough.

والحب راس الدين مَنْ

لا حب فيه قرّفا

Love is the head of religion; whoever

has no love within him is abhorrent.

والغض في الأنام كم

أفنى وساء واتلفا

And rancor among humankind—how many

has it ruined, harmed, and destroyed!

فتجنبوا عن كل ذي

غرضٍ وميلٍ حُدّفا

So keep away from every person

of self-interest and bias; cast such a one aside.

واستبشروا بالخير ما

دمتم على حفظ الوفا

And rejoice in goodness so long as

you remain faithful to your covenant.
