1. لو لم تكونوا خير صحب اوثقُ

    بعهودهم وبهم ظنوني تصدقُ

    If you were not the best and most loyal friends

    Whose pledges and intentions I believe

  2. ورعاة ودٍ مخلصين الحب

    للخلان لم يخلوا ولم يتمرّقوا

    And caring, sincere lovers

    Who never parted or separated

  3. أرباب ادابٍ وكلّ منكمُ

    في طبعه حلوُ دقيقُ ريّقُ

    People of refinement, each of you

    With a sweet, gentle, and kind nature

  4. ما كنت أبديت الملام ولا غدا

    في عتبكم قلمي يفوه وينطقُ

    I would not have blamed or tomorrow

    Let my pen speak out and accuse

  5. فلو اعتبرتم حالة الفدم الذي

    سلمتموه النبل حتى يرشقُ

    But if you considered my state as one

    Who handed you nobility to flourish

  6. كنتم عذرتم لايماً في حبكم

    قد صاغ عتباً ليس هجواً يحنقُ

    You would have excused, for a while, one in love with you

    Who composed blame, not malicious slander

  7. هل يستبين لخلكم من حثكم

    الا بأني جيت منكم اسرقُ

    Can your friend distinguish, without your prompting

    Except that I have come to steal from you

  8. أو إن ما عندي لكم هو ضايعٌ

    بل طامس في قاع بحر مُغرقُ

    Or that what I have of yours is lost

    Rather, sunk into the depths of a drowning sea

  9. هذا الذي قدى لاح لي بشواهدٍ

    وادلةٍ لي في الأمور تحققُ

    This which appeared to me with proofs

    And evidence in matters that prove true

  10. لكنما ذاك الذي عاينتهُ

    منكم لغيري قط لا يتوفقُ

    But that which I saw from you

    Never happens to another, cannot occur

  11. إذ ليس ذلك من مزاياكم ولا

    من طبعكم أو فيكم مُتخلقُ

    Since that is not of your virtues or

    In your nature, or acquired by you

  12. بل إن ذا من سوء حظي قد بدا

    والحظ اشهى ما يرام واوفقُ

    Rather, this is from my bad luck that appeared

    And luck is the most coveted and propitious

  13. لا تحسبوني كنت ذا طمع بكم

    أو من صفاتي أنني أتمرق

    Do not think that I had greed for you

    Or that greed is my nature

  14. كلا وحق العيش لا ذا بي ولا

    بالحلم ذاك لباب فكري يطرقُ

    No, by the right of life, that is not me at all

    Nor does that reach the realm of my thoughts

  15. ومن المحال رضاي فيما فيه تر

    تابو ولو أوشكت إني اخنقُ

    And it is impossible for me to be content with what contains

    Blame, even if I am about to suffocate

  16. بل خلص ودي قد دعاني أنني

    أنشي التعازي فيكم وانمّقُ

    Rather, my sincere love called on me

    To give you condolences and sympathize

  17. وأنوح معكم نادباً فقد الذي

    حزني عليه مثلكم بي يعلقُ

    And mourn with you, grieving the loss

    Of one whose sorrow hurts me like you

  18. إذ كلنا بالحب قلبٌ واحدٌ

    ما بيننا تا لله شيء يفرقُ

    Since our hearts are one in love

    Nothing, by God, divides us

  19. وبحيث من طبعي باني لا أو

    أخي الفظّ بل أهوى اللطيف واعشقُ

    And by my nature I am not

    Harsh, but love the gentle and passion

  20. أهديتكم من كنز قلبي أولا

    أبهى لآلٍ كالدر أري تشرقُ

    I have given you the finest first

    From my heart’s treasure, like a shining pearl

  21. إن كان ذاك العتب مني ساءكم

    وفوادكم متزعزع متقلّقُ

    If that blame from me upset you

    And disturbed your heart and made it restless

  22. فلنا وصفوا العيش ذو ود لكم

    أصفى من الماء الزلال واروقُ

    Then let us describe life as loving you

    Purer than limpid water, and most delicious

  23. باق على حفظ العهود ولي بكم

    قلبٌ شجيٌ مستهامٌ شيّقُ

    Loyal to keeping pledges, and my heart toward you

    Is ardent, fervent, and desirous

  24. وبساط ذاك العتب فيما بيننا

    مطوي وذياك القصيد ممزَّقُ

    And the carpet of that blame between us

    Is folded, and that poem torn up

  25. والعتب ما بين الحبايب ملحةٌ

    يزكو بها طعم الوداد ويحذقُ

    Blame between lovers is a salt

    That flavors the taste of affection and makes it thrive

  26. إن كان ثوب الحب مني فتقه

    بادٍ لكم فعلي أني ارتقُ

    If the garment of love from me is torn

    Threadbare for you, then I will sew it

  27. أو إن يكن منكم بدا فأنا لكم

    خلُ صفوحُ باب عتبي مُغلقُ

    Or if a tear appeared from you, I am yours

    A forgiving friend whose door of blame is shut

  28. واودّ إن كنت ارتكبت جنّيةَ

    معكم تمّنوا بالسماح وترفقوا

    And I want, if I committed a crime

    Against you, wish for pardon and gentleness

  29. ولكم على طول المدى مني الثنا

    والحمد والمدح الوفيّ الأليقُ

    And for you eternally from me, praise

    And thanks, sincere and fitting

  30. مع خير تسليمٍ ونعم تحية

    يزكو شذاها في الأنام ويعبقُ

    With the best greeting and excellent salutation

    Whose fragrance is sublime among people
