كفاك تجفو مطيلا
عليّ هجراً طويلا
You have shunned me long
Inflicting prolonged estrangement
فالقلب ذاب التهاباً
والجسم أضحى نحيلا
My heart melted with passion
And my body grew frail
جر عتني كاس بُعد
قد رحت منه ثمولا
The cup of separation has intoxicated me
I became confused and lost
إني لخلٌّ وفيٌّ
لم يلق مثلي خليلا
I'm sincere and loyal
But found no friend alike
كما سلو فوادي
لكم غدا مستحيلا
My heart longs for you
Yet it seems unattainable
والصبرُ عنكمُ أمسي
لدىّ في الوهم غولا
Patience for you
Has become fantastical
كم همت شوقاً اليكم
وبت ابغي الحصولا
I yearned for you intensely
Seeking reunion
فخانني سوء حظي
وابعد المامولا
But ill fate deceived me
And hopes were ruined
وجرّد البين سيفاً
من الجفا مسلولا
Separation brandished a sword
Of harsh estrangement
ليقضي الله أمراً
مقدرّا مفعولا
May God fulfill His decree
As predestined and done
وصفو عيشك لو لم
ترى عيوني الرسولا
Even if my eyes don't see you
Living happily ever after
واسطراً منه اروت
تعطشي والغليلا
Let me quench my thirst
With a few lines about you
بتّ من صارم الوج
ود والهيام قتيلا
I'm slain by love and passion
Yearning and adoration
وسيمّا حين أهدت
اليَّ عقداً جميلا
For the charming handsome one
Who gifted me a necklace
قد صيغ من نظمو مولىً
معناه يسبي العقولا
My Master crafted a poem
With deep meaning and wisdom
في وصفه العرب عجمٌ
والترك أضحى ذهولا
Describing him, Arabs were stunned
And Turks were amazed
فبات بالحمد يثني
عنه وينشي نقولا
He praised and thanked him
Composing poetic lines
يذيع آداب ندبٍ
بالعلم حاز الوصولا
Propagating the ethics of elegy
Through learned words
عبدٌ إلى الله حُرٌّ
سما مقاماً جليلا
A servant of God, free and noble
Reached the highest praise
سواه من يدعي الف
ضل ذاك يدعى فضولا
Unlike others claiming superiority
Who are but trivial and vain
يا صاحبي انشداه
وبلغاه المقولا
My friends, recite his poem
And convey my words
واتحفاه دعاءً
متمما مستطيلا
Gift him blessings
Fulfilling and complete
ووقراه احتراماً
وناشداهُ وقولا
Honor him with reverence
And beseech him sincerely
لك البقا دم سليما
ونل فخاراً اثيلا
May you live long in good health
Attaining glorious pride
وارحم فتى فيك يشدو
كفاك تجفو مطيلا
Have mercy on this lad
Who sings "You have shunned me long"
