إنا لنفرح بالأيام نقطعها

وكل يوم مضى نقص من الأجل

We may rejoice cutting the days shorter,

But every day that passes shortens our lifespan.

أين المحافل والأيام ناضرة

إذا ما أبو سمرة في ذروة الأمل

Where are the gatherings and the blossoming days,

When Abu Samra was at the peak of hope?

محمد صار فوق النعش مرتحلا

فغير الدمع ما قد كان بالمقل

Muhammad lay dead above the bier,

Nothing but tears fell from my eyes.

يا دهر مالك والأحشاء تقطعها

لموت من كان كالوابل الهطل

O fate! Why do you torment my heart

For the death of one who was like heavy rain?
