1. وَما لُمتُ فُرساني وَلكِن ثُرتُهُم

    عَصائِبَ خَيلٍ دارعينَ وَحسَّرِ

    I blame not my knights, but their horses drag

    Banners of armed steeds and iron coats of mail,

  2. فأَتَبعتُهُم طَرفي وَقَد حالَ دونَهُم

    أَساوِدُ مِن رُمّانَ يا بُعدَ مَنظَر

    I followed them with my eyes, yet between us soared

    Vultures circling from afar, O distant vision's veil!
