وَما حاوَلتُما بِقِيادِ خَيلٍ

يَصولُ الوَردُ فيها وَالكُمَيتُ

What you two undertook—leading a cavalry,

with red and bay horses charging in its ranks—

إِلى ذُبيانَ حَتّى صَبَّحَتهُم

وَدونَهُمُ الرَبائِعُ وَالخُبَيتُ

toward Dhubyān, until it fell upon them at dawn,

though al-Rabāʾiʿ and al-Khubayt lay between.
