فَتىً تَمَّ فيهِ ما يَسُرَّ صَديقَهُ

عَلى أَنَّ فيهِ ما يُسيءُ المُعادِيا

A youth in whom what gladdens his friend was perfected

Yet in him what harms his enemy was not deficient

فَتىً كَمُلَت أَخلاقُهُ غَيرَ أَنَّهُ

جَوادٌ فَما يُبقي عَلى المالِ باقِيا

A youth whose morals were complete, except that

He was so generous, no wealth did he leave remaining
