1. أنشد الشعر وحيَ الشهداءَ

    وأجُد فيهم اخا العرب الرثاء

    I recite poetry inspired by the martyrs

    And find in them the elegy of the noble Arabs

  2. واملأ الدنيا حنيناً وجوى

    وفم الدهر مديحاً وثناء

    And fill the world with yearning and passion

    And the mouth of time with praise and eulogy

  3. حيّ ذكراهم وقف في حيهم

    وتخيلهم صباحاً ومساء

    Live their memory and stand in their quarters

    And imagine them morning and evening

  4. واسكب القلب على ارماسهم

    قطراتٍ واذرف الدمع دماء

    And pour out my heart over their remains

    Drops and shed tears of blood

  5. انها تحوي جسوماً حملت

    في حناياها مضاء وإباء

    They contain bodies that carried

    In their bosoms, glory and defiance

  6. انها تحوي نفوساً أنفت

    ان ترى تحيا على الأرض هباء

    They contain souls that refused

    To live insignificantly on earth

  7. ارسل الشعر انيناً صامتاً

    وابعث اللحن نشيداً وحداء

    Send the poetry as a silent moan

    And send the melody as a lonely chant

  8. صعّد الزفرات لا تحبسها

    هدأة النفس واطلقها بكاء

    Raise up the sighs, do not hold them back

    From the stillness of the soul, release them in tears

  9. وابتعث منها شكاة واسىً

    وأذب فيها حنيناً ونجاء

    And elicit from them a painful longing

    And melt therein yearning and lament

  10. وانفث الآلام حرى كبد

    ان في الآلام سلوى وعزاء

    And breathe out the pains, burn the liver

    For in pain there is solace and consolation

  11. انشد الشعر وحي جثثاً

    مزقت اشلاء ظلما واعتداء

    Recite poetry inspired by corpses

    Torn apart unjustly and aggressively

  12. خلفت من بعدها افئدة

    صهرت حزناً وبؤساً وشقاء

    Leaving behind them hearts

    Melted in sorrow, misery and agony

  13. هذه امّ صغار فقدت

    بعلها تبغي لأطفالٍ غذاء

    Her husband, seeking food for her children

    She sheds a tear from her innermost being

  14. تسفك الدمعة من مهجتها

    زفرة حرى وناراً ودماء

    A fiery sigh and blood

    Oh poor bewildered one

  15. يا لها بائسة حائرة

    تكتم البؤس وتخفيه حياء

    Who suppresses her misery and hides it in shame

    Restrain, o sister, your straying tears

  16. كفكفي يا اخت دمعاً حائراً

    ان في الدنيا سواكِ بؤساء

    For in this world there are many miserable ones

    How strange is this world, its only care

  17. عجب الدنيا قصارى همها

    ان ترى خير بنيها اشقياء

    Is to see the best of its people suffering

    Why does it bring what we do not know

  18. ما لها تأتي بما نجهله

    بئس ما تأتي به الدنيا وساء

    Evil is what this world brings, so evil and malignant

    Recite poetry, answer those

  19. أَنشد الشعر اجب من نسبوا

    قومك العرب عبيداً واماء

    Who called your Arab people slaves

    Tell them the measure is full and

  20. قل لهم قد طفح الكيل وقد

    ملّت الأنفس عيشاً وبقاء

    Souls are weary of life and survival

    You have fooled us into dealing with you

  21. قد خدعنا بكمُ لكنكم

    قد كشفتم عنكم ذاك الغطاء

    But now you have uncovered that veil

    O people, you entered as allies

  22. أيها القوم دخلتم حلفاء

    وملكتم فغدوتم خصماء

    And ruled so you became adversaries

    We are true Arabs with pride

  23. نحن من يعرب فينا شمم

    وبرئنا مذ برئنا اوفياء

    And we have remained loyal

    Ask history about our glories

  24. وسلوا التاريخ عن أمجادنا

    وبني الدنيا جميعاً والسماء

    And the people of the whole world and heaven

    We ruled the land with justice and were

  25. قد ملكنا الأرض بالعدل ولم

    نك إلا رحماءَ نبلاء

    Only merciful and noble

    And we rescued the West from its darkness

  26. وانتشلنا الغرب من ظلمته

    وملأنا صفحة الكون ضياء

    And filled the page of the universe with light

    Recite poetry, answer those who

  27. أنشد الشعر أجب من نعتوا ال

    عرب نعتاً كان سخفاً وهراء

    Attributed to Arabs an absurd and nonsensical characterization

    They claimed we are beasts, they lied

  28. زعموا أنا وحوش كذبوا

    وادعوا إفكا وزوراً وافتراء

    And alleged falsehood, lies and slander

    We do not care for this allegation

  29. انهذا الزعم لا نعبا به

    نحن نوليه ازوراراً وازدراء

    We give it no value and disdain it

    This desert - how much it grew

  30. هذه الصحراء كم قد انبتت

    من اسود بسلاء كرماء

    Lions with courage and nobility

    You lived eras under their care

  31. عشتم الاحقاب في أكنافهم

    وطعمتم بينهم خبزاً وماء

    And tasted among them bread and water

    They gave you refuge from oppressive tribes

  32. وأجاروكم من القوم الألى

    أمعنوا فيكم نكالاً وجلاء

    Who were harsh and banishing to you

    Remember what was in Andalusia

  33. واذكروا ما كان في اندلس

    واقرأوا لتاريخ واستوحوا الاباء

    And read history and take the forefathers as example

    And now come we will show you

  34. وتعالوا الان نبدي لكمو

    أننا اصفى نفوساً ودماء

    That we have the purest souls and lineage

    This is Jaffa and its events

  35. هذه يافا وذي احداثها

    ناطقات بالذي يجلو الخفاء

    Speaking of what dispels ambiguities

    You betrayed and violated a pact

  36. قد غدرتم ونقضتم ذمما

    فجزيناكم وداداً وولاء

    So we dealt with you in affection and loyalty

    And you burned our precious pearls

  37. وحرقتم دررنا آهلةً

    فأويناكم رجالاً ونساء

    So we sheltered you, men and women alike

    And we planted mercy amongst you

  38. وزرعنا فيكم مرحمة

    فحصدنا منكم الشتم جزاء

    Yet we reaped from you insults as reward

    This has been our way and this your way

  39. دأبنا هذا وذا دأبكمو

    بعد الفرق وما نحن سواء

    After separation, we are no longer equal

    O hand of fate, shade and record

  40. يا يد الأقدار ظلي سجلي

    من بني العرب ضحايا شهداء

    Of the Arabs victims and martyrs
