1. وليلة طاب بها مجلسي

    بين الغواني الغيد والأكؤس

    The night when my gathering was delightful

    Among the singing girls and wine cups

  2. في غرفة اريجها عاطر

    يزري بريح الورد والنرجس

    In a room whose fragrance was aromatic

    With the scent of roses and narcissus

  3. مفتوحة الشباك معتلة ال

    نسمات عريانة الحندس

    Its windows wide open, breezes playing

    On bare bodies without shame

  4. انوارها تسطع في صحنها

    مثل حباب الخمر في الاكؤس

    Its lights shining in its courtyard

    Like bubbles in wine cups

  5. والغيد مصفوفات في قاعها

    مثل الجواري الخنس الكنس

    And the singing girls arranged in its hall

    Like shy, well-behaved slave girls

  6. ينظرن نظرات سدادا ولا

    يغضضن الا بعد رمي القسي

    Who glance with demure looks and do not

    Lower their gaze except after throwing arrows

  7. يحلو لهن ان يرين الفتى

    صريع حسن الزي والملبس

    It pleases them to see the young man

    Overcome by beauty of clothes and dress

  8. لباسهن الخز من احمر

    واخضر جذاب للانفس

    Their clothes are red, green and white silk

    Attractive to souls

  9. وابيض يزهو على ابيض

    جسم لطيف ناعم الملمس

    White stands out against white

    A delicate, smooth body

  10. كواعب يخلبن لب الفتى

    في حلل الديباج والسندس

    Flirts who steal the heart of the young man

    In robes of brocade and silk

  11. من آل غسان اباة الاذى

    كرائم المنبت والمغرس

    Of the clan of Ghassan, averse to harm

    Choice plants and saplings

  12. ليلى وهند والتي دلهت

    قلبي وخلتني بلا مؤنس

    Layla, Hind and she who guided

    My heart and left me without company

  13. وفرّقت من لحظها اسهماً

    مشدودة الاطراف والارؤس

    And whose glance shot arrows

    With taut ends and tips

  14. فلم تخب في الصيد اذ قيدت

    قلبي بطرف ذابل انعس

    She did not miss in hunting when she bound

    My heart with a withering glance

  15. تلك لها روحي وما تشتهي

    من مشرب عذب ومن ملبس

    She owns my soul and whatever she desires

    Of sweet drink and clothing

  16. يا هذه مهلا ولا تحسبي

    اني ككل شاعر مفلس

    O you, wait and do not assume

    I am like every bankrupt poet

  17. ينبوع شعري زاخر فاشربي

    او شئت ان تزيني فالبسي

    My spring of poetry is abundant so drink

    Or adorn yourself if you wish

  18. وعبلة الحسناء ترنو إلى

    خطيبها اللابس المحبس

    And the beautiful doe looks

    To her suitor in fine clothes

  19. عرائس الشعر عبيد لها

    يفدينها بالغالي والأنفس

    The brides of poetry are her slaves

    Who ransom her with what's precious and souls

  20. وعبلد الطفلة يا عبلة ال

    طفلة يا ريحانة الانفس

    O doe, O child, O soul's comfort

    O most wretched of the wretched

  21. يا عبلة الطفلة يا مشتهى

    روحي وقلبي انتاعس الاتعس

    O child doe, O my soul's desire

    And heart's delight, you saddened the most sad

  22. احببتني يا طفلتي ساعة

    مرت كروح القدس الاقدس

    You loved me for an hour, child

    That passed like the holiest spirit

  23. هلا عىفت انني شاعر

    يحن للحسن ولما يسي

    Why didn't you realize I am a poet

    Who yearns for beauty and verse

  24. فجئته تعطينه حلوة

    كريقك الحلو ولم تنبسي

    You came to give him something sweet

    Like your sweet spittle and did not speak

  25. اللَه ما أحلاك يا طفلتي

    وما احيلى جيدك الاملس

    By God, how beautiful you are, my child

    And how smooth your cheek
