1. أو ما رأيتَ إلى شئونه

    كالدم تهطل من عيونه

    Have you not seen his affairs

    Like blood dripping from his eyes

  2. لم يعرهُ جبنٌ ول

    كن روحه ضاقت بهونه

    Fear has not touched him

    Yet his soul is weary of its sorrows

  3. والحر ان يبصر رني

    ن القيد ثار على رنينه

    And the free cannot bear seeing

    The shackles revolt against his wrists

  4. أو ما رأيت الليث مع

    تقلا يحن إلى عرينه

    Have you not seen the lion with

    A small cub yearning for its den

  5. القيد يرهق جسمه

    والدهر يسخر من شؤونه

    The shackles exhaust his body

    And time mocks his troubles

  6. يا للزمان على الكري

    م ويا لقسوته ولينه

    Oh what time does to the generous

    And its cruelty and tenderness

  7. انظر اليه وقد تبد

    ى النور يسطع من جبينه

    Look at him, the light shining

    From his forehead has appeared

  8. وأصخ الى زفراته

    حرى واصغ إلى انينه

    And listen closely to his sighs

    Full of heat, and to his moaning

  9. وانظر إلى دمه يسيل

    من الجراح ومن جفونه

    See his blood flowing

    From the wounds and his eyelids

  10. في لونه شفق الاصي

    ل وفيه سحر من فتونه

    With the twilight's glow in its color

    And in it magic of its charm

  11. حيران لا يدري أتس

    لمه الجراح إلى منونه

    Perplexed, not knowing whether

    The wounds will lead him to his demise

  12. ام تستبد به فيح

    يا في جحيم من ظنونه

    Or if it will take him, so he lives

    In a hell of suspicions

  13. أسوان ينشد قلبه

    وكأنه يحيا بدونه

    Asswan, his heart recites poetry

    As if he lives without it

  14. يرنو إلى غده وليل ال

    شك يظلم في يقينه

    He aspires to tomorrow while the night of

    Doubt darkens his certainty

  15. والشك مجنون وقلب ال

    حر من صرعى جنونه

    Doubt is insane and the heart of the

    Free is epileptic in its madness

  16. والهم يختصر الفتى

    يقضي عليه قبل حينه

    And worry shortens the youth

    Finishing him before his time

  17. يا عائديه وانتمُ

    طير ترف على غصونه

    Oh you who return while you are

    Birds fluttering on his branches

  18. هاتوا اكاليل الازا

    هر وانثروها عن يمينه

    Bring the garlands of flowers

    And scatter them on his right side

  19. من نرجس الروح ومن

    ورد الفؤاد وياسمينه

    Of the soul's narcissus, the heart's

    Rose and jasmine

  20. وهبوه من غالي الوجو

    د ما يشاء ومن ثمينه

    And grant him from the most precious

    Of existence what he wishes and from its gems

  21. أو لم يهب دمه العزي

    ز فداء موطنه ودينه

    Has he not given his noble blood

    In sacrifice for his nation and religion?

  22. يا أيها الأسد الجري

    ح غداً يحن إلى عرينه

    Oh you noble lion tomorrow

    You will yearn for your den

  23. لك في الخلود صحيفة

    بيضاء تشرق في جبينه

    You have in immortality a white page

    Shining on your forehead

  24. روحي فداك وحق رو

    حك في شجاه وفي حنينه

    My soul is sacrificed for you and for the right of your

    Soul in its wounds and its yearning
