عصرنا هذا ملئ بالفتن

طبعه خلق شرور ومحن

Our era is full of tribulations

Its nature created evils and afflictions

محفل الماضين فيه مقفر

صوحت فيه حياة تنضر

The gathering of the ancestors in it is empty

The life in it withered and dried

أنكرت أنفسنا أنظارنا

وجفت نغمتها أوتارنا

We denied our own eyes

And our strings became silent

شعلة التوحيد فينا سلبا

ناره والنور منا سلبا

The flame of monotheism in us was robbed

Its fire and light were robbed from us

وإذا ما اعتل تقويم الحياة

فمن التقليد للقوم نجاه

And if the system of life became corrupted

Then from tradition comes the salvation of the people

سنن الآباء حبل الملله

ومن التقليد جمع الأمة

The traditions of the forefathers are the rope of safety

And from tradition comes the unity of the nation

يا خليا في خريف من ثمر

ارقب الغيث ولا تجف الشجر

O vine in the autumn of fruit

Watch for the rain and do not let the trees dry

قد حرمت البحر فاذ كرخسر كا

يا قليل الماء واحفظ نهركا

You have been deprived of the sea, so remember you lost

O little water, and protect your river

فعسى سيل الجبال الهادر

منه في مجراك لج زاخر

Perhaps the violent torrents of mountains

Will flood abundantly in your valley

حال إسرائيل فيها تبصره

إن تكن روحك روحا مبصره

You can see the state of Israel in it

If your soul is an insightful soul

انظرن كيف اتبلاها الزمن

وعرتها في الخطوب المحن

Look how time has tested it

And stripped it bare in dire tribulations

وجهها في كل حين يلطم

كاد في أعراقها يفنى الدم

Its face is slapped in every instant

Nearly draining the blood from its veins

عصرت عنقودها كف الخطوب

ذكر هارون وموسى في القلوب

The hands of afflictions wrung out its grapes

The mention of Aaron and Moses is in the hearts

إن خبا في اللحن منها قبس

لم يزل في الصدر منها نفس

If an ember of it dimmed

Its breath remained in the chest

سار في إثر الجدود المحمل

حينما انفض لديها المحفل

It followed the ancestors who carried

When its gathering there had scattered

يا من انفض له جمع وجاه

وخبا في صدره شمع الحياه

O you whose gathering and status scattered

And the candle of life dimmed in your chest

آية التوحيد في القلب اسطرا

ومن التقليد أمسك بالعرى

Inscribe the sign of monotheism in your heart

And hold on to tradition's rein

اجتهاد في زمان القهقرى

يذهب الأقوام منه شذرا

Diligence in the age of regression

Takes the nations away piece by piece

اقتداء برسوم الأولين

هو أولى لا اجتهاد الغافلين

Imitating the ways of the early ones

Is better than the negligence of the oblivious

لم يصب آباؤنا بالهوس

طهرت أعمالهم كالأنفس

Our ancestors were not possessed by passion

Their deeds were as pure as their souls

فكرهم كان رقيقا مرهفا

فعلهم أوفى بشرع المصطفى

Their thinking was gentle and perceptive

Their actions were loyal to the Chosen One's law

فكر الرازي ونجوى جعفر

أين والعرب هداة البشر

Where is the thinking of Razi and the whispering of Ja'far

While the Arabs are guides of mankind

ضيق الدين علينا يسره

وادعى كل لئيم سره

The religion has narrowed on us, make it easy

And every scoundrel claims his secret

قد جهلت الدين عنه حائدا

الزمن يا حر نهجا واحدا

They are ignorant of the religion, straying from it

O hot era, follow one approach

باح لي بالسر نباض الحياه

أنما في الخلف مقراض الحياه

Tell me the secret pulse of life

It is only found in the successors, the shears of life

وحدة الشرع حياة الأمة

فمن القرآن روح الملة

The unity of law is the life of the nation

For the Quran is the spirit of the faith

نحن طين وهو قلب لا جرم

هو حبل الله من شاء اعتصم

We are but clay and it is the heart, no doubt

It is the rope of God, so hold on to it if you wish

فانتظم في سلكه كالدرر

أو غبارا في الرياح انتثر

So fall in line with it like pearls

Or dissipate into dust in the winds
